About Me

hello to all who share my interest in writing and creating and sharing with others. it is great to be a part of such a community. i am always game for one on one swaps as well as making new penpals so..if anything about me interests you, drop me a line.

it seems of late that my world is swamped with stress, obligations, chores, responsibilities. where did fun go? where did friendships go? i am constantly trying to develop new friendships and nurture old ones while at the same time working outside the home and inside the home. a truly difficult balancing act that i am sure others can appreciate. i am about to give birth to my second biological child (i have a third but i did not birth him) and am thinking i might need to take a bit of a break or cut back from swapping in the near future for awhile.

i enjoy good laughter, great friends and thought provoking questions.

i love to chat on the telephone, friends who just stop by for a visit and those who suggest going for a walk or doing something else together. sadly such friends seem few and far between. i wonder if it is age, timing, lifestyles, peoples energy levels and so on. i wonder allot :)

i sometimes write short stories, often from the perspective of a hippo. as a result i seem to have a large collection of such things. my nickname is pickle so i also have alot of pickle items. i love color...all colors especially the bright ones.

i love quotes and poetry and zines. i cant get enough of thought provoking quotes, and find myself with not only a few book collections of quotes, but random pieces of paper that i have scribbled quotes on and later transfer to a book.

i am big fan of camping, nature, trees, lakes and playing outside.
things i can never get enough of:

  • quotes. thought provoking, inspiring, intelligent quotes. books of quotes, magnets of quotes, buttons with quotes, cards with quotes, scribbled quotes on pieces of paper...not a big fan of the funny quotes...mostly because i dont share the humour of most (although i am told i am very funny) :)

  • lyrics to thoughtful, thoughtprovoking, insightful songs (i love music as well but prefer the words being the focus over the music, which leaves me listening most often to folk and country)

*poetry ...you got it, thoughtful, thoughtprovoking, insightful poetry

  • good book suggestions for reading. i am always looking for recommendations in this department. i enjoy non-fiction, some time travel, and biology based books.

  • handmade items. i love seeing what other people are making, what inspires them, what they spend their time doing, creating, collecting.

*art...is art something different from handmade items? i am not convinced...but i love art and i have a million pieces of art from drawn to paintings to prints, to cards that are eye catching all over my place

  • zines. love to read what folks are talking about

  • great photographs. you guessed it....thoughtful, thoughprovoking, insightful...and sometimes funnny. the kind image that makes you smile deep inside with a memory being twiged or created rather than a belly laugh funny.

  • i love bright colors, all colors, all colors at the same time. bold colors.

*information. i enjoy reading ideas, whats worked, whats been researched, whats been experienced. usually something that i can share with others through work, friendship.

*i enjoy nature, water, trees, open skies, animals, quiet moments and anything that can take me there while still sitting in suberbia, on the commute to work or at work.

  • i am starting to decorate up the yard with little colorful, fun things.

  • i like bags...to carry all sorts of goodies around it, not the short handle handbags though...my hands are often full so i prefer to wear my bags over my shoulder/neck with a long strap. i have small shoulders which things slide off of. wallets and other little things are great as well.

im about 5'2, size xlarge girly shits on the top.

i am not wearing much jewelry these days as the kids seem to enjoy breaking anything they can get their hands on

and thats about it for the moment..i hope this helps :)

for the record, i am not a fan of ATC's. that may seem shallow..i do respect them and their creators. but i think they should be with folks who love them....so perhaps i am not their best home.

Favorite Music

i love folk music. folks with acoustic guitars, pianos, hand drums...something to offer melody but not overpowering. i especially like to listen to folks sitting around singing. i like show tunes and even musical, much to the disgust of the ten year old :) not a big fan of "music" as much as lyrics much to the disdain of my boyfriend who loves playing heavy trash metal on his many instruments. i spend alot of time on the road driving and love to listen to assorted music. sing along stuff is a favorite.

Favorite Movies

coal miners daughter, a chorus line, lord of the rings series...enjoy watching television dvd's. not alot of time for movies...not much of an attention span either. do alot of reading in the non-fiction department, fiction and sci-fi. love time travel books.

Favorite Television

i wont even try to deny it...i love television. but i dont watch nearly as much as i would like to...as they say life gets in the way :) i love television but i dont concentrate when i watch it, which i think is why it never bores me.
american/canadian idol(its the music: it sucks me in), survivor, medium, as well as documentaries, assorted shows on dvd, huff, charmed, mcgiver, buffy, 24, and so on.

Favorite Crafts

i have tried many a craft and am always looking for that craft that grabs me, that i enjoy making as much as others enjoy getting. i am currently making little fabric stuffed critters. between the kids and the boyfriend i keep more than i give away because they are all their favorites. i make fork jewelry as well and love doing so, also i am addicted to assorted things i can do with pin back buttons be that making jewelry, bobbi pins etc. am always looking for quotes and pictures to incorporate.

i am interested in some one on one swaps if there is something that you think we might want to share with each others. letters and zines count!

ratings

*i will always rate if i receive...and even provide extra time for those who may get a swap away late. if i have not received anything...i will rate a 1 but be open to changing that rating if something should come along. i wont email you privately to tell you it did not show...thats what the rating is for in my opinion. if and when i do receive i will gladly change the rating. Should you email me POLITELY to explain what happened, i am more than reasonable. I will not tolerate meaness or rudeness. There is enough of that in real life. i will not engage, i will not shower you with any attention.

to the majority of you who send, and send fabulous letters and whatnot. hats off to you and your thoughtfulness.

Comment: Sorry for the late rating. I was unexpectedly in the hospital. I'm getting quite a collection of your zines, and I don't think I've sent you any of mine. I'd love to arrange a trade of some sort, if you are interested. Your fork pendants really intrigue me. I'll message you privately. M

Oooh! I'd love to find a great cookbook design! I hope to get somemore zines so I can get an idea of what I'd like to do!

MistiKo on Jan 25, 2009:

Hi there; I really enjoyed the zine you sent me and I was wondering if you might be interested in contributing to the swap-bot collective zine (the subject is "swaps". Let me know if you are, okay?

Artistic on Aug 25, 2008:

Thanks for sending your I Wish letter and the new zine!

indygirl on Aug 16, 2008:

Thanks for the craft zine! Kind of felt like I was whirling around inside your head as I read all your crafty thoughts,(it's interesting in there:) ) Luv your step son's skull and crossbones, too. Almost ruined the zine trying to cut the tape to open, but thought it was cool that it was a self mailer. Thanks!

Artistic on Apr 10, 2008:

Hi there. I'm so glad you enjoyed the 100 Hearts package. I had a ball picking out things for you. It was a hard choice in the bookstore Barnes & Noble because there were three different quote or question games. I finally settled on the one I thought you'd get the most use out of. :) Have a great day.

bluegrassgirl on Mar 13, 2008:

Hi Pickle...

Check out my new swap "Travel Back In Time".

sararenee on Mar 8, 2008:

Dear Pickle- I received your zine yesterday and enjoyed every bit of it! Thanks for trading!

thenerms on Mar 6, 2008:

Hello Pickle

Can you please tell me (email) if they have not received my magnets as there is no rating or PM...

They have been sent, but sometimes our Post Office thinks they are the Natzi's and take my things.

They must really like the packaging or something who knows. If you can get back to me, thank you ever so much.

sararenee on Feb 21, 2008:

Hey Pickle! Thanks for joining my Reoccurring theme zine swap! I think it will be fun : ) Also, I have a zine I just finished, wanna trade?
