Mostly older stuff, like Motown and 50s R & B. My favorite contemporary artist is Amy Winehouse.

Favorite Books

Middlesex, Sophie's Choice, Ladies of the Club, Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird, Johnny Got His Gun, Flowers for Algernon

Favorite Movies

The Godfather, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, ET, Rocky, Pulp Fiction, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Deerhunter, Midnight Cowboy, Coming Home, MASH

Favorite Television

MASH reruns, Everybody Loves Raymond reruns, American Idol, Yankees Baseball Games, crafts and needlework shows on HGTV and DIY, Antiques Roadshow, Curb Your Enthusiasm

Favorite Crafts

Crazy quilting, knitting, crocheting. I've recently started keeping an art journal of sorts (some might not call it art!), and I'm loving it. I don't have much in the way of paper supplies or images (vintage are my favorites), but I'm growing the stash little by little.

About Me

I'm married, have 2 grown children, and one beautiful baby grandson who is without a doubt the best thing that's ever happened to me! My degree is in English, and I'm a copy editor for an advertising agency in Providence, RI. We recently moved here due to my husband's job relocation, and I'm having a very difficult time adjusting. I miss NJ so very, very much!!!!

Likes and Dislikes

  • I love buttons. I've collected them for years and can't seem to get enough. I especially like the carved mother of pearl variety.
  • I also collect vintage hankies, and often use them in quilts and other crafts.
  • Going to yard sales is one of my favorite activities. I look for the above mentioned buttons and hankies, plus old books, vintage images, antique handbags and compacts, Jadeite, millinery flowers, and anything else that catches my eye.
  • I love to find old tatted pieces to use in my crazy quilts. I am tatting impaired! I've tried desperately to learn how and just can't seem to get it.
  • Green is my favorite color -- I'm always on the lookout for vintage kitchenware like the stuff my Grandmother used to have in depression era green.

I don't much care for country collectibles (you know -- ducks, chickens, cows, too many bows, pinewood, etc., etc.). I don't like anything too frou-frou, either, with too many ruffles or too much lace. My taste is most definitely vintage, but more arts & crafts movement, or even early 20th century when roll-top desks and Elliott Ness phones were in style. I like furniture with lots of cubbies and compartments.

Hi there, Just wanted to invite you to my Christmas Recipe Postcard Swap! I'm doing it a month early so we can enjoy some of the recipes in time for Christmas :)

snowhite on Oct 10, 2008:

Hi Marilyn,

Your welcome. The grape leaves or dolmas are super easy to make once you get the hang of it. I make like 100 or two at a time and then freeze them. I make them in bulk, my boyfriend eats like a bulldozer. LOL

Take care and if you need help with the recipe message me.

TTYL, Lauren
