About Me

Updated June 3, 2017:

I've had a few setbacks this past few months and my hopes of being able to move to Washington next year have kind of fallen by the wayside ... there are some repairs that need to be done to my house that just aren't going to happen any time soon, so no way to sell it at this time ... but, you never know what the future holds. So, I will hopefully get back to swapping regularly! I really missed it!

My swap group ... please join QuinGem's Swaps With A Purpose!

Favorite Crafts

I love to to do sewing, loom knitting, and plastic canvas swaps of all kinds.

I love to collect natural yarns (mainly cotton), natural buttons (bone, wood, shell, metal; especially vintage), vintage lace and anything else that is vintage or Victorian in style.

Looking for vintage 100% cotton fabrics.

I am slowly (very slowly) building a Victorian-style dollhouse and love to collect miniature things to go in it. 1:1 miniatures.

My mother loves to do latch-hook rugs.

JEWELRY - I do NOT wear jewelry. Any jewelry received will be re-swapped.

Favorite Movies/TV Shows

I love silent movies. Ramon Novarro is a favorite silent actor, along with Douglas Fairbanks and a few others.

My favorite 'modern' movies are Baby's Day Out, The Princess Bride, Independence Day, Silverado and a few others that I watch nearly every time they are on TV and also have the DVDs!

I love a lot of the older series from the 1950s and '60s such as Laredo, Lancer and others.

True favorites are The Magnificent Seven, Highlander, Criminal Minds, Stargate SG-1, and a few others.

Favorite Music

I love oldies ... real oldies, like before 1940! I also love John Barrowman, The Bee Gees, John Denver; anything that has a soothing male voice and no noisy instruments and screaming! I also love Chris Colfer and wish he'd make an album of his own!

Favorite Books

I love cozy mysteries.

I also collect a lot of craft books and magazines.

Any books by John Barrowman and Chris Colfer.

I collect books that have gay male protagonists. I have just started collecting the Donald Strachey Mysteries series by Richard Stevenson.

I love audiobooks, too.

Wish List

Vintage solid white or off-white 100% cotton textured flour sack cloth (need about 3 yards)

Miniature bird eggs

Sewable Velcro strips/rolls - NOT the sticky kind

Square sticky Velcro

Anything Native American, Western (cowboy era) or Victorian

Glue sticks (plain, colored or glitter and, repositional)

Clear packing tape

Tea-related items

Small 'Dog on Board' sign for back of my bike trailer

New US postage stamps - any denomination

Fabric bandage Strips

Incense sticks - vanilla, cinnamon, citronella, marijuana, frankincense preferred - NO jasmine.

Cotton handkerchiefs - any style

Cotton fabric (fat quarters)

Tiny appliques (iron-on or sew-on) - flowery or vintage-type designs or others (no cartoons or 'modern'-looking)

Baby rickrack (¼-inch) - any color

Cotton yarn

Dog collar/harness hardware (metal buckles, d-rings, etc.) - no plastic parts

Latch-hook kits, yarn or canvas

I am gluten-free/wheat-free/corn-free. I love anything organic. I do not eat any over-processed packaged products (faux food.) I do not eat candy. I only eat real food. ;) I eat HFLC (high fat, low-carb), somewhat Paleo, but more and more re-wild/ancestral.

ALLERGIES!!! Caffeine, mushrooms, roses/rosehips, jasmine, flax, navel oranges, chamomile, corn, wheat!!! Please do not send me tea or other foods with these ingredients!!!

I'm loving doing tea swaps. So many good flavors! But, PLEASE don't send me anything with mushrooms, jasmine, rose hips or chamomile as I'm allergic. I really don't like black tea on its own, but I use it to make kombucha. I love fruity, berry, citrus (NOT orange!) herbal teas. If sending loose or uncovered tea, please write down brand/ingredients.

My favorite tea right now is Guayaki Yerba Maté Chocolatté tea. It is soooo good! But VERY hard to find.

No coffee, no chocolate, no candy.

Due to the outrageous cost of even sending a postcard overseas, I can no longer join international swaps. :(

I normally go to my mailbox the day after delivery as it usually arrives very late in the afternoon. I try to rate as soon as I open my mail.

I try to always mail by the deadline or before. If you do not receive something, PLEASE make sure to contact me about it before rating. I cannot use Delivery Confirmation on all sends (post office won't let you on some of the small stuff ...)

I had issues with one swapper (back in early 2011) about one of my sends and she gave me a poor rating. She did not like my first send, so I offered to resend. She then said she did not receive my resend. I have offered to send copies of my Postal receipts/customs receipt, but she never responded. I have spent more on this one swap trying to satisfy her than I have on any 5 other swaps! It's very frustrating. She gave me a one rather than a 3!

I recycle nearly all the packaging I receive - envelopes/mailers, boxes, bubble wrap, tissue paper, newspaper, etc. I also use clean butcher paper, paper grocery bags, etc.

Comment: Cute key fob. What a creative idea. I used my mystery fabric to make the pocket on a tote bag.
Response: Thanks for rating.
Comment: I love therapyanimals, there are therapy alpacas in my city :)
Response: I used to have 3 therapy dogs (2 Cocker Spaniels and a Greyhound) and a therapy rooster back in the '80s/'90s. It was a lot of fun. Sometimes miss doing that - taking them to do visits. I sometimes do volunteer work with some therapy horses (full-size that people come to their farm to ride for therapy) . Thanks for the heart!!
Comment: Thanks for the pics :)
Response: Thanks for the heart!

Comment: Thanks for sharing :) I have been trying to reduce the rubbish I put out, and have considered buying a glass/metal straw actually. Happy swapping :)
Response: Thanks for the heart! I recommend the stainless steel straws. I tried glass before that, but kept breaking them!
Comment: Oh, how did you know I love extra wide lace? I haven't been able to find it lately. Thank you so much for the lace and the fat quarter and bias tape! I will have to save the candy for a few days. I'm off sugar this week but my readings haven't changed much. I think it's one of the meds I'm taking but we will see. Hugs, Diane

Response: Thanks for the heart. It was a fun swap!
Comment: Thank you so much for sharing...I miss stores like that. We used to have so many cool little places like that when I lived in Seattle, but there aren't many places like that where I'm at now. :(
