All my hero's are weirdos
My name is Kurtis and I was born and raised in Minnesota. Moved to Nebraska where i have been living since 2011. I have a teenage daughter. Spent nearly twenty years working restaurants ranging from Townie Bars and Grills, corporate chains, to find dining. Was a jack of all trades in the kitchen. Could pretty much put me in any position and I'd be able to handle it. Think my favorite position was being a Banquet Sous Chef. Lost of hurry up and wait. I was always fun making the food for weddings and such. I don't miss working in restaurants so much as I miss the camaraderie.
In December 2019, I graduated community college with a degree in PC and Web Development. After graduating, the State of Nebraska (DHHS), where I had been interning, hired me on as a FT Web Applications Developer.
Since the pandemic started, I have gotten into doing virtual races. Have completed 5/10k's every month since October 2020. Planning on doing one every month in 2021. January first, I started a 480mi run/walk/swim/bike/row challenge. Aiming to complete in forty weeks, but at the rate I’ve been going, I’ll probably be done byApril
Another thing I got into since COVID is kayaking. March 2020, I purchased a Perception Joyride 10.0 for myself and a Perception Swifty 9.5 for my daughter. Not crazy extreme kayaking or anything, but just going around the lake and enjoying the weather, sunsets and, occasionally, some beers.
Covid also renewed my interest in postcards. Was really active on this site from 2007-2011, then moving and other life events put swapping on the back burner. Sprinkled throughout the years, I'd log on and do a few swaps. Being back at this, though, has renewed my interest in painting, drawing, photo editing and now collages to make postcards. It has been enjoyable getting back into the arts again.
I send swaps on time and try to rate immediately. If you haven't received something from me, please let me know so I can make the necessary corrections.
Love The Smiths, Talking Heads, Stark Reality, Jamiroquai,.. Jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, electronic, chill-..
Enjoy a lot of stuff and, like food, am pretty opened minded and will give new things a try. That being said, not much for country - old stuff or folk is fine. Also, not much for the screaming, "passing of a kidney stone" metal music.
I am not really hip to what is current, although my daughter shows me some songs here and there.
To name a few of my favorites:
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Locked Stocked and Two Smoking barrels, Bongwater, Big Lebowski, Royal Tenenbaums, Annie Hall, Love and Death, Manhattan, Hedwig & The Angry Inch..
Started reading a lot recently. Listen to a lot of audiobooks also. Actually, started with audiobooks last summer and there were some That didn’t have audiobooks on my app, so I had to read them. Sorta took off after that. I aim to finish a book a week, meh, doesn’t always happen. Usually have at least two going at once. I really dig fiction but am also really into politics. So usually I audiobook something political and read something fiction. Sometimes I need a break from politics though and will double the fiction. Not much into the fantasy/science fiction.
Currently Reading: The Last Orgy of the Divine Hermit - Mark Leyner
Currently Audiobooking: TBD
Some Favorites:
Honestly, I haven’t been watching much TV because I have been reading so much. psychedelic I do watch a fair amount of news though: The Hill, Majority Report, The Young Turks, Tim Black TV, Last Week Tonight..
Outside of news.. HUGE Modern Family Fan. Scrubs, Letterkenny kinda grew on me, American Dad / Family Guy, Home Movies, Walking Dead - haven't followed as closely these days, The Wonder Years
