About Me

As of today, 5-19-08, I am running a little behind on my swaps. The past couple weeks have been really tight financially for us and I haven't had any extra money to finish them or mail them. I think we are really beginning to feel the effects of food and gas prices (I have spent $110 in gas just to and from work in the past week and half!). I sincerely apologize to those who I am holding up on my swaps, but I do have every intention on fullfilling them on my next payday. After that I will just have to watch how many I sign up for as this was totally unforseen. I am very sorry!!!

I am a 37 year old female from Fort Worth TX. I am a Horticulturist by trade, but a rock chick by heart. (Wish I had some musical talent so I could have my own chick rock band!) I am totally addicted to going to rock concerts, spend way too much money on that hobby! I am married to the sweetest man ever and have 2 step children (1 of which lives with us) and have a little Yorkie named Wookie who is my baby. I love art, hate it when people call me 'crafty'. I have tried so many different things in that area. Painting, drawing, sewing, jewelry making, photography, rubber stamping, ATCs etc..Just all kinds of stuff. Right now I am really into making what I call Tattooed Jeans. I paint jeans with cool images like tattoos. Mostly tribal stuff. (You can see some of my stuff on my Myspace in my albums.) I have also revisited an old love I had in high school. Writing. I forgot what a release it is to write. (Again you can read some of my work in my blogs on my Myspace page) Another new venture I am trying is OOAK Barbies. I want to make Gothic ones like Dark Angels and Vampires! I also love to cook and entertain. Since I am a horticulturist I do love nature and am trying to incorporate a more 'green' way of living into my life. I am really big into helping my local Animal Shelters and LOVE all dogs. (Wish I could give each and every stray a good home) I play tennis regularly and I also love to do yoga. My current fav thing to do is play Guitar Hero! Grew up in the 80s so have a soft spot for video games, but think the new controllers have too many buttons! I feel like I like a wide variety of things, but am still a little picky. (If that makes any sense.) I think right now I am going on a type of spiritual journey. Grew up in the Pentecostal Church, but never really connected to it. So I am searching for my own way now. I am a totally organized person to the point that it drives people crazy. My family calls me Monica (from "Friends"). I HATE clutter and love things to organize with. (Isn't The Container Store FABULOUS?) And of course, I LOVE swapping!

Favorite Music

Where do I start? I just LOVE music, all types. But my favorite is ROCK N ROLL BABY!! Especially the 80s hair bands! Love me some Cinderella, Poison, Warrant, Motley Crue and the like! Also the classics like Heart (those girls ROCK!) Aerosmith, Guns N Roses (they are classic now aren't they?)and KISS. Metal rules as well, especially Metallica! But like I said I listen to everything and I love my country boys like Keith Urban, Gary Allan, Billy Currington and Chris Cagle too. And even pop music, will always love Madonna, my first true love Rick Springfield, Janet Jackson and even will listen to Justin Timberlake (shhh..don't ruin my rock chick image with that one). Newer stuff I like is Breaking Benjamin, Puddle of Mudd, Papa Roach, Velvet Revolver, Maroon 5, Sixx A.M. etc. Dance/club music is cool too. I like listening to that as I work or do art projects.

Favorite Television

Friends is my all time fav. Currently Nip/Tuck is what I can't do without! (Love me some Dr Troy!) I will also get sucked into watching any of those pop culture shows like I Love the 80's! Rock of Love with Bret Michaels (I really need to be on that show)! Also a big sports fan so I will watch a lot of different sporting events. American Gladiators, American's Next Top Model, LA Ink, Run's House,Girls Next Door, Dirt, It's Me or the Dog and anything on Food Network or HGTV.

Favorite Movies

Gone With the Wind is my fav all time classic, with Pretty Woman right up there too. Highlander was always a fav and I love Empire Records. (Wow, I just run the gauntlet on my tastes!) I also love scarey movies (Rob Zombie's are the best) but haven't seen many lately cause my husband hates them. I LOVE vampire movies (something sexy about them!) I won't miss any Tim Burton movies, they are so creative and artistic. Comedies are pretty much my favorite, though. Love to laugh!

Favorite Books

I love autobiographies, especially on musicians. Just finished Slash's and Nikki Sixx's (love that man!). Now I am reading "The Dirt" about Motley Crue. I also love gorgeous photography books and have tons of crafting/art books. I just started "Eat, Pray, Love" too and am really liking it. I have read most of Anne Rice's stuff (yes even the Sleeping Beauty stories!) And in the summer time, I have a guilty pleasure - lying out by the pool reading a Jackie Collins book! Love that trash!!! (Don't really like many other books like that though.) Always love cookbooks (and my husband loves me to have them!) I am also addicted to magazines. My favs are (but will look at many others) Ready Made, Rachael Ray, In Style, Modern Dog and of course, Rolling Stone!!!

Favorite Sports

Soooo many... Basketball/Lakers- NASCAR/Jeff Gordon (hence the 24 in my user name!)- Football/49ers- Hockey/Dallas Stars- Tennis/Sharapova and Federer - Baseball/Oakland A's- Wrestling/Shawn Michaels

Favorite Themes

Rock N Roll and Gothic- Botanical and Nature - Dogs (I am a crazy dog person, my little Yorkie is my child!)- Abstract - Creative Imaginative stuff like funny monsters and creatures. Skulls and/or flames are awesome, 80's themes are great, love trees and bugs too (guess that is the horticulturist in me).

Favorite Colors

Kinda depends on what it is. A lot of my clothes are black. (It's slimming!) Really like black and hot pink together. Hate light pink. Purple (not lavendar) is another favorite. If its flowers, I love bright orange. I prefer silver over gold. I like the colors chocolate brown and robins egg blue (think Tiffany's box) together, not so much separately. Deep, rich, blood red is another great color. I really like all the jewel tones used together in a piece of art work.

Dislikes/Don't Want

Anything too girlie and glittery. Clutter. ALLERGIC TO CINAMMON so don't like that too much. Not too big on techy type stuff or sci fi. Not really crazy about the vintage/victorian things either. Don't want to sound un-patriotic but don't really care for the Americana type or country-ish stuff. Nothing cheap looking either, don't like dollar store stuff. I don't like the scents of patchouli or musty type stuff, including cigarette smoke. I don't wear a lot of earrings (I have a set of diamonds I never take out). Hate birds (sorry bird lovers). No Disney, cutesy stuff. Don't really want to receive any food type items (for me or my dog). Sorry.

Likes/Want

Anything rock n roll related! Or gothic type things. Really like funky handmade stuffies. (Goth ones would be real cool!) I love journals, photography, paintings. Can never have enough fluffy comfy socks, lip balm (unopened please), cool notebooks, funky pens, highly scented candles or purse/tote bags! Love cool bracelets, especially cuff bracelets (my wrist is pretty small). Like different pendants in themes listed above. Don't have, but want some cool knit hand/arm warmers (or are they called gauntlets?)and funky knit/chrocheted scarves. (Did I spell that right?) Would love dog related art work or photographs. Am a huge Wonder Woman fan so anything with her would be great too. Like the scents of vanilla, lavendar, china musk, rosemary, fresh cut grass and rain. Cookbooks are wonderful or just great recipes, as are aprons (nothing too frilly though) I am getting a collection of rock n roll magnets in my office that I would love to add to. (I have a few Wonder Woman ones in the mix too.) I have recently started collecting cute dog salt & pepper shakers, both vintage and new (as long as they are cute!) Never have enough acrylic paints (I like Liquitex and Golden) or brushes. I am pretty much open to a wide variety of stuff though, would like to experience new things too.

Comment: I still haven't got anything, not even a respond to my email. I'm really disapointed. Still very disapointed. A least you could leave a massage, especially since you were the host of the swap....

Comment: Nothing has arrived yet. I've had communication from Shelly several times and I know she's in a financial pinch, but it has been several weeks since the last update that it would be sent shortly. Will be happy to re-rate once this is received. Am really hoping that my mom will have a chance to receive a box of joy to brighten her day.

Comment: Thank you for being so sweet! I really liked everything you put together, especially the tea box!! You did such a good job on that, I love how it is personalized and all the little pictures. How did you do that, rubber stamps? I love it. :) I also love how you put Lucy's name on the photo album, simple but so thoughtful. My husband is all excited about the tea filters, he's a huge looseleaf tea nut. ;) Anyways, this is a really long comment. I love everything!! I would give you extra hearts if I could.
Response: I am so glad you liked it all! The box was my fav and I have decided to do some more like it (it was my first!). Yes that was a set of insect rubber stamps I stamped all over scrapbook paper, then cut into the little squares and put on black paper to accent! I really had fun putting the whole package together for you!!!!

Comment: Aww thank you sooo much! I LOVE him! I can really see how you would have such a hard time sending him off but don't worry because I will take super good care of him and give him plenty of hugs. :D (I have a hard time sending mine off too!) He is wonderful. I love the little note from him too. You should consider making more like him and selling them on etsy.com! Very creative. I would give you more hearts if I could.
Response: Oh, thanks so much! That makes me feel so much better!! My husband said the same thing about etsy. But he said I would have to make a duplicate of each to keep cause I get so attached to them!!! Thanks!

lol.. I'm kinda embarrassed to say that I have only been here a little over a month! I just love it so much and it feels like home, and since I'm an artist and I make stuff all the time- it works out. Don't worry about upsetting people, everyone (mostly) is really nice and understanding! :)

TanyaDawn on Mar 25, 2008:
