I have been an artist all of my life; my mother led the family through many art projects. One in particular that I recall was a poster-sized collage of images from around the world – an Indian dancing girl, tigers, European fashion models, palm tree…whatever struck our fancy to see juxtaposed into one complex image.
Mom encouraged me to attend art school (she bemoaned the fact that she’d never learned to figure drawing). I have worked in advertising, public relations and art workshops. However, my remoteness from “big cities and health concerns have caused me to curtail my wage-earning abilities.
I create watercolors and collages, as well as acrylic paintings. I also love to crochet and sew. Currently, I teach an occasional art or craft workshop, and am lucky enough to have a group of creative women who meet every other Sunday to energize each other.
I think music is one of the most wonderful gifts that humans can give each other. Although I can’t sing, I love almost all melodies, from old timey mountain tunes to Jimmy Durante’s crooning. I listen to symphonies, heavy metal, ballads, classic rock. And I thrash my way along on the 5-string banjo when my husband feels like fiddling.
I cannot name a favorite color, as variations of hues and saturation completely alter my emotional response. I tend to paint with bright pinks, greens and neutral reds, but that changes from week to week.
