i am a 26 year old small business owner by day and a creative jane of all trades by nite. live in new york city with my girlfriend, lilo and our fish, george. i'm queer and plump and full of ideas and goals. love is grand. so are tattoos and cities and awesome music and good food and midday naps. i like to cook soups and pasta and brownies. it relaxes me. don't be afraid to send me silly, unusual, thrifted or questionably obscene stuff, i have a fantastical sense of humor. you should get one. i refuse to use commas or caps properly. i also love to ride the subway and smile in the rain. most would say i am funny, a dreamer, loyal + true. i like to travel and spend a lot of my free time at thrift shops. i believe in karma and putting my all into everything i do. don't see the point in relationships without connection.
i love music and i am open to hearing anything at least once. day to day i listen mostly to indie stuff, electronica, classic rock, alternative. i also like blues from different decades. and i'll fuck to justin timberlake... just like everyone else.
some of my favorites are: arcade fire, architecture in helsinki, arctic monkeys, atmosphere, bad company, belle and sebastian, bitch and animal, the blow, camera obscura, death cab for cutie, electelane, ellen allien, enon, feist, the gossip, her space holiday, imogen heap, iron and wine, jack johnson, louis xiv, the magnetic fields, massive attack, metric, m.i.a., morcheeba, n.e.r.d., peaches, placebo, the raconteurs, rilo kiley, the rolling stones, santogold, spoon, stephen lynch, tegan and sara, the ting tings, tv on the radio, van morrison, violent femmes, weezer, the who.
mix cd's are a personal fave of mine. i take the mixing/song choice/theme seriously and i always try to make artwork to go along with liner notes. i would be interested in doing one on one trades for mixes.
almost famous, amelie, animal house, annie hall, breakfast at tiffany's, broadcast news, buffalo 66, bulworth, the candidate, children of a lesser god, closer, code 46, don't tell mom the babysitter's dead, ghost world, the goodbye girl (original), high art, igby goes down, kissing jessica stein, the last picture show, the life aquatic, lords of dogtown, the lost boys (and every other kiefer sutherland film), lost in america, love actually, the man in the moon, mermaids, nightmare before christmas, rare birds, reds, the squid and the whale, the thomas crown affair, wall-e, wedding crashers.
i love films by woody allen, wes anderson and warren beatty. i dunno why their names all start with w.
bravo reality shows like project runway and top chef, the west wing, the daily show, 24, la femme nikita, the family guy, the wonder years, dead like me, house.
i recently moved into a much bigger apartment and am now the proud owner of a room all to myself for my art and craftyness. i have an honest to goodness studio and it feels great! usually the space is in chaos because that's how i work. i am most happy with little piles of snipped paper at my feet and paint on my hands. i am a great mixer of media and i never throw anything away because i will eventually use it in some creative way.
right now i am into making: atc's, small paintings on scrap wood, binding journals and booklets, handmade notecards, carving rubber stamps, making small stuffies, tin shrines and other altered objects. i also draw/sketch.
i have a great interest in photography that i try to practice often. i get into knitting in the winter months. someday i will crank out a pair of socks but for now i stick to scarves and small purses.
i'm slowly learning to sew with my new sewing machine.
i don't scrapbook but i like the supplies a lot. especially sticker backed embellishments, paper punches and interesting papers.
if you want to make my day you can send me interesting or colorful plastic shopping bags. i fuse them together into sheets with an iron. the sheets can be used to make all sorts of stuff from journal covers to containers to whatever you can think of. right now i am working on an apron i started last christmas. shhh.
chocolate without nuts. socks. make-up. jewelry. sheer ribbons. spiral bound notebooks unless they reflect one of my likes. scrapbook supplies with holiday, birthday or occasion themes. shapes made from foam. the overuse of glitter. tea. disney. hello kitty. kawaii. teddybears & cats. purple. rainbows. patches. bath products.
I am not an atc nazi or anything so don't be scared off. These are just my thoughts.
I've noticed that pretty much wherever atc's are traded that the age old discussion of what makes a good atc usually comes up. There are traders who say they are happy to receive anything, some will express vague disappointment over a trade or two, then the sticker being slapped on a card is not art stance, followed by the defenders screaming who are you to decide what art is!?!
Most people don't throw a sticker on a card, that's a widely used cover for meaning I just didn't like what you sent. There are many different styles of atc's: hand drawn, painted, collage made with poor quality printed out images from the internet, collages made with scrapbooking supplies, vintage looking, digital photography, rubber stamps, etc.
So I would like to just throw this non-requirement out there as a friendly suggestion and will do so in all of my atc swaps from now on. Be upfront specifically about what you do and don't like in terms of atc materials in your profile, in the comments of atc swaps you join, etc. Giving potential partners a heads up that you probably won't appreciate some type of subject matter, material, etc may help you have better swap experiences. If your partner doesn't give you any direction feel free to ask for it.
I personally like my swap partners to be happy so even though I use collage a lot if I were to run into someone that said they didn't like that I would try to steer clear. Maybe try a new material I never used. I know we all have our creative process and maybe this is too much to ask to be considered but then again maybe it's not. If I can prevent someone from having a disappointing finish to the opening of a piece of fun mail then I surely will because I've been there and it sucks.
my atc likes/dislikes:
my biggest pet peeve is a card made with blurry or poor quality images printed out from the internet. we are all experienced net/tv watchers. we know when the picture is fuzzy. why on earth would you send that out? Maybe you joined a theme and then couldn't find much to work with but online images. ok, find high resolution ones.
i also don't enjoy print outs of previous atc work or other artwork resized and put on an atc. that's like me sending my partner a painting on canvas and my partner sending me a magazine article in which their painting was featured. not even remotely close to fair.
i do have some cards made with scrapbooking type supplies that i like but original art on cards is what i love best because i am a mail artist so it's the type of atc swap culture i was "brought up" in.
i like to try new stuff. i welcome my swap partners to use me as a guinea pig.
i completely respect anyone who wants to ignore my likes/dislikes. I WILL NEVER rate you unfairly.
i am not a flaker. i only send out art and goodies that i would like to receive. i try to make envelopes and even little swaps special. i truly enjoy it. i'm one of the good guys.
a few times i've sent late for just spice of life troubles everyone runs into and i communicated those issues. one of my 3's is an overreaction rate from a postcard swap. i sent the postcard on time but my partner felt that the subject matter of the card was too obscene to be mailed and that i had committed a moral sin by using the us postal service to mail it. i didn't break any rules, swap bot or us postal service wise so this 3 is quite simply bs. the 1 i have is being taken care of as of oct 2nd and should be changed very soon.

you seem like great person...we have a LOT in common (age, music tastes, personality, i love la femme nikita, too!)
I'm going to join your person, place, thing music swap. I hope one day we get partnered to trade, or maybe a little one-on-one?
peace.

Thanks for permission to use you as a guinea pig! I'm gonna try drawing out a new shape this time. ^__^
I HAD changed my comment to rate later... I don't know why swap-bot didn't change my rating must have been a glitch in the system.
