I am a mother of 2 and a grandmother of 3. I live close to Houston, TX and work for a steel distribution company. I like animals and have a poodle and 3 cats and 1 bird. Update in the animal kingdom--I lost three of my best friends in the last year--my poodle JB, one of my Siamese had to be put to sleep due to a cancer and my very best Pal--Tookie, my cockatiel. He lived longer than expected according to the "experts" but I miss him terribly. On the brighter side I do have a new dog--Buford-a full blood basset hound rescued from the local shelter. He is a wonderful dog and I am not sure I could have made a better choice.
I like classical music, country/western, classic rock, pop, and gospel along with other things.
Some of my specific favorites are Jimmy Buffet, Toby Keith, Al Green (especially the gospel), Black Eyed Peas, Journey, Elvis, Willie Nelson, and the list could go on for a long time so I will stop there.
I like to read, fiction, non-fiction, articles--anything that catches my attention.
My favorite authors are Jimmy Buffet, Janet Evanovich, Stephen King, Sandra Hill and Ann Rule.
I don't watch a lot of movies, but I do have a couple of favorites...101 Dalmations is one of them.
One of my favorite actors is Richard Dreyfus--his movie Let It Ride is one of my all time favs. I also love the movie Lone Star State of Mind. If you like comedy--this is a good one to watch. Has a lot of great lines in it.
I don't watch a lot of TV, I prefer to read.
If I am watching TV it is something to do with forensics. It must be true things without all the drama that is on some of the crime shows of today.
I like to sew, quilt, paper crafts, painting, and fixing up "treasures" I find at flea markets/auctions.
I love shopping in flea markets, resale shops, auctions, estate sales/garage sales--anywhere I can get a good bargain. I like the fun things you find that you never expect to. Just yesterday (07/09/11) I was at one of my favorite shopping spots and I found post card sleeves! I bought 300 of them for $1.98--it was the first time I have ever found these in a shop like that.
I love to collect/send postcards and notecards. My mom is in a nursing home now and I try to send her at least 3 cards a week--even though she is only 2 blocks away from where I live. It 's just a little something that I know will brighten her day. She has dementia so I know the time that I have now when she is still able to enjoy things is very precious. She also has physical mobility problems so that is also a challenge when I bring her home for a visit. A funny little tidbit about her is that she is offically the "HOG CALLING CHAMPION OF LAPORT TEXAS" One of the local 4-H clubs made a visit to the nursing home and had games for the residents. What they didnt know was that they had a "professional" hog caller in resident. You see, she grew up in Arkansas--HOME OF THE RAZORBACKS--and as with many sports fans from Arkansas--she grew up calling HOGS! WWWHHHHOOO PIG SOOOIE! RAZORBACKS!
All of my kids/grandkids have moved away now and I'm super bored without them. I try to send them a package at least once a month and letter/cards at least once a week. I miss them alot but I hope to be able to move closer at the first of 2012.
