You can call me Maria or Ri. Just don't call me late to dinner...or dessert...or coffee!
I am a California native. I am a mom to an incredible 14 year old girl, and 2 kitty fur babes.
I work in the transportation industry, scheduling big rig trucks to deliver building materials up and down the state. In the almost 20 years I've been working in such a demanding field, I've become even more sarcastic (which started off as a defense mechanism in my early teens), when you get to know me, you'll realize I'm a just soft, overly sweet, gooey marshmallow on the inside!
In my past life, I feel like I must have been a gypsy or pirate. I dream of travelling around in a tiny home/R.V. without a schedule. On the flip side, I also dream of owning my own home and having an art/craft studio.
I'm attracted to shiny objects and glitter...and iridescent foil.
A lover of books, journals and notebooks, I used to penpal when I was younger. Now that I'm older and my social circles have gotten smaller, it's nice to reach out and meet new people, especially when you have a mutual love of crafting. My postman is also relieved that I now have a good reason to pickup my mail...and my creditors probably are too...
There is nothing more fulfilling to create something with your hands, I truly believe handmade is best made. I love so many different crafts, and there is always something new to try! My steady love is paper crafting. I used to make and sell soap at local festivals but lately my full time job and life in general has me spread too thin to schlep my wares all over town on my off time. I have also dabbled in candle carving, needle felting, knitting/crocheting, fluid acrylic painting and my latest, painting mandalas on rocks and canvas!
I have an unhealthy obsession for anything:
Alice in Wonderland
Beauty and the Beast
Tarot card decks
Vinyl Tsum tsums
Anything Classic Disney live-action, all Disney animated movies
Studio Ghibli, especially Howl's Moving Castle and Kiki's Delivery Service
Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone
All of Tim Burton's Movies
Pirates of the Caribbean series
The 10th Kingdom
Bollywood Movies, such as Baghban and Saawariya
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was the latest series I binge watched, it was pretty good-I hear it ties in with Riverdale, but I haven't watched that one yet.
A Korean Odyssey and other K-Dramas
All of Brian Fuller's older shows: Pushing Daisies, Wonderfalls, Dead like Me
Fantasy/Sci-Fi shows like: Eureka, Warehouse 13, X-Files, Once Upon A Time, Grimm, Lost Girl
American Horror Story-my favorite is still Coven
The Strange Case of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell
Documentary-style shows like Forensic Files, Dateline, Dirty Money
Dungeons and Dragons
The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack
I love the Twilight Series, and I'm not even ashamed to admit it, LOL
I recently enjoyed the 2 books in the series written by Theodora Goss, The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter and European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman.
I just finished Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty-and will probably NEVER visit a "health spa" or "retreat"!
I love thrillers like Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn and The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn
Also Soman Chainani's series The School for Good and Evil is a favorite
I mainly listen to audiobooks on Audible during my commute to work, while crafting and lounging about the house.
I am in the process of listening to:
Why You Need A Budget (YNAB)-Jesse Mecham-this is quickly becoming a book I'll need a hard copy of-I have such a hard time paying attention to every detail!
The Witch Elm-Tana French
These Rebel Waves-Sara Raasch
In my queue is:
The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks
Missing You by Harlen Coben
Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows by Balli Kaur Jaswal
