About Me
Relative newbie to knitting, though coming along quickly :) I am the world’s slowest American-style knitter, but I think because of crocheting for years am rather fast with Continental style.
My stuff is stored in ziploc bags or plastic bins with cedar balls (& sometimes a dryer sheet) in a smoke-free, but not pet-free home. Furry children are not allowed to toy with the yarns :) I live in a home with 3 cats & a dog.
Long-time crocheter, currently addicted to knitting, off & on sewer, avid baker & chocolate maker
Career goal as a child: to design clothes for Barbie, lol
I’m actually a Ph.D student/instructor in medieval studies (knitting is great for procrastinating on writing!)
Love love love 30s 40s 50s 60s retro styles, whether knits, hairstyles, shoes, clothes, etc – my fave icons are Jean Harlow, Rita Hayworth, Natalie Wood, and Doris Day – one per decade ;)
I dance ballroom, Latin & swing styles – I’m so sad Dancing with the Stars is over now until fall, but looking forward to So You Think You Can Dance!
I have champagne wishes & caviar dreams, lol – i love love love the finer yarns in life :)
Preferences
I prefer hot cocoa to coffee or tea & I prefer dark chocolate to any other kind, though caramels trumps all! i’m also addicted to Haribo-brand gummies!
i’m totally following in the sock-knitting & sock-yarn trends! i am really getting into indie/hand-dyed yarns lately & prefer worsted-weight or lighter-weight yarns, though i do use bulky wool/animal fibers to knit items for Warm Woolies :) Er, i also like cotton for dishcloths!
Favorite colors: greens, blue-reds/red-blues, pinks, violets & purples, rich browns, teals & blue-greens
I like knitting accessories, esp berets & socks, & I like knitting garments. I don’t mind seams, lol. I also like knitting dishcloths/stuff for the home.
i prefer knitting with my circular knitting needles & am contemplating getting rid of my straights. i’ve tried the socks on circs & find i’m old-fashioned: i like my DPNs!
fave fibers: most natural fibers, especially wool, alpaca, silk, and cotton (or blends), tencel, seasilk, etc. not a huge fan of mohair or angora, though ok as blends in small amounts.
