*** This is just a quick update: over the summer, I will be less active on here. I've got a lot of big things planned for the summer, as well as taking care of a litter of foster kittens, so it's been difficult trying to keep up with swaps. Please know that once the cold weather comes back, and kitten season slows down, I will be more active again! In the meantime, I'll be participating in a few scattered swaps here and there. :) ***
My name is Emily, I'm 24 years old, and I live in a small, quiet house along the Hudson River. I live with my boyfriend of six years and our two cats, Taz and Mia. We just recently moved from an apartment in a busy city, to our first house in a rural area. It's taking some time, but we're adjusting and loving it so far!
I have been a preschool teacher for almost three years now, and boy is it challenging, but I love it with all my heart!
Along with teaching, I also enjoy filling my days with reading, writing, hiking, browsing thrift stores and markets downtown, hunting for salamanders in my driveway, and volunteering at a cat adoption center. I am also the world's biggest nature lover and bug enthusiast!
I am looking for another outlet to fulfill my creative need, and thought penpal-ing would be the perfect solution!
I'm a bit unusual when it comes to my taste in music. I was raised in a Bluegrass household. My father has been in bluegrass bands my entire life, and is currently touring the country playing bluegrass.
I'm currently really loving Gregory Alan Isakov, Lord Huron, Sleeping at Last, and John Mayer.
Also, I am dating a Dubstep music producer, so I have grown to enjoy that genre of music as well. ^_^
Honestly, I will listen to and enjoy just about anything!
I basically lived and breathed books growing up, and was picked on for always walking home from school with my face in a book (don't know how I made it home alive!). And now I have a degree in English with a concentration on Literature... so I guess you could say I've read quite a few books in my lifetime so far!
However, even though the amount of books I've read is unfathomable, I still keep returning to Nicholas Sparks. As cheesy and predictable as they are, I cannot seem to pull myself away! I also enjoy all of Sarah Dessen's books and have recently been introduced to R.M. Drake!
Oh, and Harry Potter, duh.
The Outdoors: I've been going camping since before I could talk, and I practically grew up in the Adirondack Mountains. If it's nature-themed, I'll love it!
Butterflies/Bugs in General: Bugs have been a weird obsession of mine my entire life. I guess it comes along with growing up outdoors? Butterflies are my favorite, though. Particularly Monarch butterflies. Every August I love to collect their caterpillars and raise them into butterflies to send off to Mexico!
Plants: Just call me the crazy plant lady! My mother had the most beautiful gardens growing up, and I guess I have inherited her green thumb, because I am so obsessed with house plants! I guess it kind of goes along with nature stuff? But I also love, love, love anything with botanical prints on it.
Vintage/Antique Things: Anything with a vintage vibe to it!
Cats!!! I am a crazy cat lady. I only have two (for now), but they are my life. I especially love black cats!
Poetry: I have always been into poetry/creative writing, and after getting my BA in English, my passion has only grown stronger! I love Mary Oliver, RM Drake, Rupi Kaur, and Kylie Johnson (if you haven't heard of her, look her up!).
Journaling: I spend way too many hours making a mess on my floor with all my journal supplies. I have a poetry journal that I've been putting together for a while now. I really like using stickers and different paper/fabric scraps.
YouTube: There's a small handful of channels I even enjoy watching anymore. But Jordan Clark is the reason I joined this site, so I obviously enjoy her videos a lot! I also enjoy Shane Dawson, LiveEachDay, and grav3yardgirl. (I also secretly enjoy Dan and Phil... and may have attended Interactive Introverts this summer)
I am very picky when it comes to teas, as I'm still kind of new to being a tea drinker, but I'm willing to try anything! I tend to lean more towards tea that doesn't taste like tea... if that makes sense? I enjoy anything with a fruity/citrus-y flavor!
I am not a religious person, so please don't send me anything religious. I fully support anyone who is, but that's just not for me. I consider myself more of a spiritual person. :)
And finally, PLEASE don't send any children's/teacher reward stickers. I AM a teacher, I have full access to thousands of sheets of those stickers at any given moment. In fact, I usually come home with a handful of them stuck to the bottom of my shoes each day!
