I live in beautiful Colorado with a spectacular woman, and our wee little girl, Avery. I teach (and otherwise study, think about, and write about) Women's and Ethnic Studies and Sociology at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. My students are fantastic, and I learn much from them.

I speak a little swahili, and love to practice whenever I can (it doesn't happen very often.) :)

I have an ever-present wanderlust, and am particularly enchanted by East and Central Africa. I'd love to live there someday. I'd also like to travel the world in search of sacred spaces of pre-christian/pagan/goddess worship. I want to do everything.

Otherwise, I'm home most days with my daughter, dreaming, playing, singing, creating, journaling, scrapbooking (and otherwise chronicling my life so that I can live it over and over) and loving. :)

I'm THRILLED to have found this website, and love receiving mail... :)

These are a few of my favorite things:

*AFRICA and anything to do with it. ELEPHANTS!, warthogs, giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, leopards, ...and other African fauna. African people/tribes, politics, geography, landscapes, acacia trees etc. LOVE IT!

*skeleton keys...especially tiny ones!

*Vintage postcards--especially those depicting racial, sexual, and/or gender discrimination (I use these in my classes to extrapolate the history of these things in America), vintage postcards with pansies or orchids on them, vintage pictures, vintage ephemera and trinkets.

*Female nudes, pin-ups, nudie vintage playing cards, adult-themed things as long as humorous/witty and not downright degrading or gratuitous.

*Saint cards--especially female saints. And most especially, images of Our Lady of Guadalupe and other depictions of Mary.

*Shabby chic

*Really getting interested in steampunk stuff...send it my way!

*Orchids and pansies--love 'em!

*Anything with images of green squares

*TINY THINGS!

Human connection. Creating things. Singing songs. Music (folk, funk, soul/R&B, old-school rock, "world" and opera). Travel. Earth tones. Red. Purple. Wine. Mountains. Hiking. Climbing 14ers. Being outside. Camping. Anything yoga or Buddhist-related. Beets. Cooking and eating (especially vegetarian/vegan recipes and thai food). Books. Books. Books. (especially the Little Prince and anything by Jeanette Winterson or Tom Robbins). Tea (all kinds). Kenyan coffee. Photographs. Interesting/unusual/vintage ephemera and paper. Things in miniature. Re/Upcycled things (within reason). Found objects (you know, except things like cigarette butts and used gum) Life. Love.

Dislikes: Hatred. Bigotry. Nationalism. Ethnocentrism. Violence. Pornography (this just means gratuitous, degrading stuff, not simply nudity or erotica.) Colonization.

That said, I wouldn't be a huge fan of receiving patriotic items, military paraphernalia, christian-themed items (EXCEPT those depicting Mary), or anything glorifying violence or the valuing of one group of human beings over another.
