I have been an avid seamstress since the age of 4. The first thing I ever made on my own was a patchwork quilt that I designed my own pattern for at the age of six. Right now I am assembling a recycled thrift store felted cashmere sweater quilt. I cannot wait to curl up under it!!
Now I do just about anything crafty. I love to knit socks and scarves. OK, I love to knit anything EXCEPT big blankets that take forever and sweaters with too many seams...
I also dabble in scrapbooking and art journaling.
I have a small internet based machine embroidery business and embroider stuff for my co-workers all of the time.
My kids' teachers know me as the go-to for "anything craft supplies" because I think I could start my own store...buttons, ribbons, fabric, yarn.
I tend to read things related to my profession. I am an ICU nurse.
I love craft/knitting/sewing magazines and books for light reading. My favorite book right now is "Sewing Green" by Betz White. In my most recent swap, I received an issue of "All*You", which I had never seen before, but has lots of budget and coupon ideas. So I promptly bought a subscription! (Thanks!! :))
I am in my mid-thirties with 3 children. Two girls, then my youngest is a boy. They are 15, 9, and 8.
I also work full time at a Level 1 Trauma Center in the NeuroScience Intensive Care Unit. I have been an RN for over 10 years, all of which has been in critical care.
For trustworthiness: I have been a buyer/seller on eBay since 1997 with a 100% positive feedback score over 600. My username there is the same as here, aleshapie.
I recently signed up for the Grocery Game and CouponMom.com!!
Want: Campbell's; Canned Foods (no Progresso Soup...too expensive!) Frozen PIZZA!!; Laundry stuff; Any sugary cereal...(3 kids...); Fruit snacks and lunch-size snacks (ie: like the cheez-its in the 9 pack); Frozen Food; Tyson's meats; Any Coffee; Cleaners; Iam's Pet food (cat and dog); Paper Products;
DO NOT WANT: Diapers or Baby stuff; Diabetic Supplies; Hair color/shampoo; Lite, Organic, Diet, or other wise "healthy" stuff. I am going to be honest here, I take my kids to McDonalds once a week. I let them eat donuts for breakfast and we eat Hamburger Helper. Lets face it, it is the path of least resistance! (and they are not a pound overweight, because I make them PLAY, not sit)
I tend to gravitate to pinks and reds... but lately I am also enjoying orange.
I am completely in love with cutsy-babyish Owls. Think Woodsy. Give a Hoot-Don't Polute!
My favorite commercial involves the scrubbing bubbles. I have emailed the SC Johnson company several times to get them to put out a t shirt with the bubbles on them... to no avail!
I love linens and fabric of just about any kind, except not really a fan of synthetics. I have a rather large collection of quilting fabrics. But I also collect wool or cashmere thrift store sweaters to either unravel and reuse the yarn or to felt and cut up into other items.
My favorite thing to make usually involves some kind of pouch, purse, totebag or fabric-organizer-thingy. I like to transform old things into something new and different and then be able to say "Yeah, I really did make that!"
I would like to make another "I Spy" quilt with candies and cookies, or a "Jar" quilt with fruits. I have a few cute patterns that are just waiting for the right time and the perfect fabric.
I am "resolving" to make a Dear Jane Quilt in 2012. I am planning to do the rainbow theme. Anyone interested in quilting along with me, let me know and we can start a blog!
