I am a forty year old married mother of one. My daughter is 20 years old, and a full time college student who lives with her boyfriend a little more than two hours away. My husband and I are now empty nesters. Fun, fun, fun!!! I suffered a rather serious back injury years ago and am physically disabled. I am only able to work a few hours a week as a cashier at a local liquor store. Ergo I find myself with a lot of free time on my hands, I have always enjoyed doing a variety of crafts having been raised by my grandparents who both enjoyed making things with thier hands. I was taught from a young age the true value of handmade items. I love the whole process of crafting, from designing a project right through to its completetion. To me there is no greater gift than to give or receive a handmade item. To know that someone took the time and effort to create something for you is a sign of their of both thier love and respect.
I enjoy listening to all kinds of music, but I particularly like songs that tell a story. Country music is primarily what I listen to but I also enjoy a lot of the classics. From easy listening to classic rock, with a bit of classical and broadway show tunes thrown in for good measure, A few of my favorite artists include Litttle Big Town, Gary Allen, Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift and Keith Urban. I will listen to just about anything as long as I can understand the lyrics and it doesn't give me a headache. I enjoy listening to music while I am crafting or reading.
Reading is another past-time that I enjoy immensely. I have always been a avid reader, and I will read just about anything I can get my hands on. However I especially like mysteries, romances and scary stories. A few of my favorite authors are Johanna Lindsey, Catherine Coulter, Julie Garwood, Michael Palmer, Dean Koontz, Robin Cook. I also really enjoyed reading all of the Harry Potter books, and the Twilight series. Currently I am reading Eragon, and the other dragon series books by Christopher Paolini. So far they are turning out to be a fantastic read. I rarely leave the house without a book in my bag, you never know when you might get stuck somewhere with nothing to do.
I watch all kinds of movies, and I currently have a DVD collection that numbers well over 300 titles. I watch a lot of movies, and television as well. I usually have something on while I am crafting. My favorite movies include The Shawshank Redemption, Gone With the Wind, Gone in 60 Seconds, Wanted just to name a few. I enjoy action movies, romantic comedies, and a good scary movie (not gory). I like good dramatic movies, and also enjoy musicals. Hairspray and Sweeny Todd are two of my favorites.
I watch a lot of TV. So much in fact that I had to get a second Tivo unit from the cable company to be able to tape all my programs. I watch the new prime time dramas, but I also like to watch a lot of the older shows reruns. My favorite shows right now are all the CSI shows, Criminal Minds, Bones, Sons of Anarchy, NCIS, all the Law & Order shows, Fringe, Cold Case and Brothers & Sisters, I am not too much of a comedy fan so I rarely watch any sitcooms, but I think the funniest shows ever made are Family Guy? and Everybody Loves Raymond. I still watch the classic shows when I can like Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons.
I like crafting of all kinds, but I would have to say the my number one favorite thing to do is scrapbook. I enjoy just about every single aspect of it, and I am always amazed at the new techniques and supplies that are constantly available. I also like making ATC's and greeting cards as well as mini-books and the like. I do counted cross-stitch and plastic canvas projects as well. I like to crochet, but cannot seem to learn how to knit to save my life. Everyone says it is supposed to be so relaxing, but whenever I try it I find myself getting tense and frustrated, I would still like to learn how to do it properly because there is so much more versatility to knit good then there is in crochet. I dabble at painting and wood crafts now and then. I also like to make jewelry and other beaded crafts. The list never ends. I often try to teach myself new craft forms, sometimes I am successful and others....well.... a least I gave it a try...right?

Hi Beth,
Hope your feeling better and that your doctor visits bring good results.
Dear Beth, hello from Arizona. I am your "My Swap Bot Profile is a Little Lonely" partner. I noticed our birthdays are close. Mine is 1/12. How neat that you joined directly after yours. I see you are into scrap booking. I am into paper crafting so we are paper buddies. I read you watch the CSI shows. I do as well. A friend comes over to watch since her cable is messed up. She is a talker through the show so I have learned to zone her out so I can focus on the show. Ha ha!! Well I hope this note finds you well! Enjoy your week! Anne :)
Hi there Beth; i Love your profile, we have soo many things in common. I love Sons of Anarchy and Cold Case, and i own all the NCIS and Law and Order shows on divd they get a bit of a work out in our haosue as they are major fav's. And i adore Giraffe's i hope you like the little pic i have added for you. KInd regards Lisa
I think a liquor store cashier would certainly have its perks. If you are having a bad day, just grab a treat from work and head home... not to mention a possible employee discount. Fun!
I recently started to appreciate handmade gifts... I sure hope thats not a sign of ageing! Yikes! Im more apt to believe its because we know how much work is put into it personally. Please tell me its true, LOL.
We watch SOA in our house, too. The first season was pretty decent, now its bothersome. I hate that their new focus is Luannes business. Anything for extra viewers, huh? At least its starting to get pretty interesting now that Gemma is breaking down about the incident.
Big points for liking giraffes. I havent seen many people who like them. Sadly, I dont really like to see them in person. I tend to think they are the most foul smelling animals. I love Geoffrey from Toys R Us and the Yikes Stripes bubblegum giraffe... well until recently. I bought a pack of the gum and cant get the awesome tattoos to transfer properly... I so bought the pack for the tattoos!
