About Me

I'm a wife and homeschooling mother of three with a part time job at a scrapbooking/stamp store that I love. I spend a lot of my time at home with my kids or participating in all of the activities that come with having homeschooled children. When I can, I squeeze in time for reading and crafting/creating. I love art and while I don't consider myself an artist, I love trying my hand at painting and drawing. When I get outside I like to bike (bicycle) and I've discovered I love camping.

Favorite Books

I love reading all kinds of books. My house is basically a library. My husband jokes that we are going to have to learn how to make my bookshelves a structural part of our house if I buy any more of them. I'm currently in a classics book club and I'm really enjoying it. The only genre I do not really enjoy is romance, but if it is recommended, I'm willing to try just about anything. I do believe my favorite author of all time is Neil Gaiman. I also have recently started to enjoy reading some of my kids' books too. I find juvenile fiction delightful. Favorite books of all time would be Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman (most things by Neil, really) The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See, A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, A Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks, A Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, and Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain just to name a very few.

My current list of favorites include, Pavillion of Women by Pearl Buck, A Little Princess and The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Robe by Lloyd Douglas, A Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin, Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman and The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. Oh so good!

Favorite Music

I love all kinds of music with the exception of post-1980s country. I am always obsessed with finding the next great song that makes me want to listen to it over and over again. Old favorites are The Smashing Pumpkins, Tori Amos, Pearl Jam, The Cure, BT, Bjork, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Chevelle, Fiona Apple and Beck. These people made me want to be rock stars. Some favorite bands/singers that I'm listening to right now are Regina Spektor, Pete Yorn, School of Seven Bells, The Joy Formiddable, Wolf Alice, Silversun Pickups, Meg Meyers, Grimes, The Kills, K. Flay, GEMS, Ryan Adams, The Replacements, Alt-J, Doomtree and Dessa. I could literally go on and on. There is so much good music out there!

Favorite Crafts

I love crafting in most of its forms. I love to scrapbook, art journal, make cards, paint, draw, knit, crochet and spin yarn. I HATE sewing. I used to think I'd like it, but every time I try it, I end up hating the process and the finished product. So I've given up on that one. I go through phases with all my preferred crafts. Right now, I'm trying to learn to knit brioche and finding it very challenging. Working in a store that sells art supplies and scrapbooking paper has helped me amass quite a stash of crafty things to work on. ATCs have become my preferred art form for the time being and I can't get enough of them!

Favorite Television

I don't watch a whole lot of television lately. Shows I have really enjoyed in the past are The Office, Arrested Development, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Seinfeld, Parks and Recreation, Firefly, Fringe, Battlestar Galactica and Gilmore Girls. I haven't had actual network tv or cable or anything in my house in almost 14 years. Everything we watch in my house is on DVD.

Recently watched and loved The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, and Once Upon a Time.

Favorite Movies

My favorite movies are pretty much all older ones. The Shawshank Redemption, Star Wars episodes 4-6, Empire Records, Pillow Talk, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Braveheart, Roman Holiday, Amelie, Pride and Prejudice (the Colin Firth one), The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and I do like the new Star Trek movies just to name a few.

  • anything handmade
  • vintage
  • ephemera
  • die cuts
  • coffee
  • colors (I love them all, except for things that are predominantly orange. Aqua, turquoise and red are favorites)
  • vintage Pyrex
  • tea (all kinds)
  • Star Trek
  • Star Wars
  • geek
  • natural fiber yarn
  • tattoos (I have none, but love them anyway)
  • stamps (rubber, acrylic and postage)
  • Chapstick
  • pop art
  • graffiti
  • geometric patterns
  • markers
  • watercolor
  • Tim holtz products
  • ATCs
  • art made by you
  • fairy tale characters
  • Alice in wonderland (not Disney version)
  • mermaids
  • children's book illustrations
  • books
  • socks

I promise, if I receive something handmade and it is obvious you put effort into the item, I will love it! I am a huge proponent of handmade crafts.

I also promise that I will rate you the day I get your swap or shortly thereafter and I ask the same of anyone who receives swaps from me.

I pledge to rate

Private swaps

I am ALWAYS looking for someone to swap privately with me. If you are interested, please send me a message. I am more than willing to set it up. I am interested in swapping:

  • music playlists/recommendations
  • book recommendations
  • postcards homemade and store bought
  • ATCs
  • yarn
  • knitted items
  • stamped images
  • vintage ephemera
  • die cuts
  • pocket letters
  • washi tape samples

I am looking for a pen pal. I'm not really interested in letter writing swaps as you aren't getting to know the person who's getting to know you through your letters and there's very few people who actually write back. I know it's not usually required. I would like to do some one on one letter writing and get a true pen pal or two. If you read my profile and think we might get along and you would like to communicate in that way with me, please contact me privately. I would be delighted.

I have just started trading postcards and thought I'd list my preferences here.

Themes I Like

  • black and white
  • mailboxes
  • works of art
  • handmade
  • buildings
  • vintage
  • sci-fi
  • books/authors/book quotes
  • superheroes/comics
  • manga
  • weird or bizarre
  • maps
  • touristy
  • botanical

Themes I Dislike

  • cartoons
  • ad/free cards
  • anything that is inappropriate for children to see (my kids get the mail for me every day)

The dislikes are null, of course, if the swap calls for that type of card.

I prefer my cards naked with a bit about you written on them. I like learning about the people I'm swapping with. Give me a book recommendation, tell me what you've been listening to lately, tell me about how you spend your time or about something you wish for. Something besides, "here's your PC".

Please don't send:

  • foam stickers/shapes
  • anything scented
  • Christmas themed items-I'm just not into Christmas crafting. I've tried, but it just doesn't excite me.
  • Disney stuff

I'm pretty easy to please!

Comment: I am always glad for a book review and a quote. I like to put books on my amazon wish list, and when they are available for cheap, add them to an order. My shelves are stacked with unread books, but the security of having something at the ready is soothing somehow.
Response: I hear you! I have tons of books and I've gotta say that 85-90% of them are unread as of yet. I fully intend on reading them all! I love having a lot to choose from.
oblivionspin rated for mpu: whud i miss? PC on May 9, 2017
Comment: I really don't need to add more to my tbr list, but dang that book sounds good. I'm really loving lit with female characters right now (not that I didn't enjoy it before- I just plain never thought about it and since I read a lot of scifi which is, well, mostly dudes.) So I'll have to look for a copy to add to my teetering pile. (: When I get to reading it in 5 years I'll tell you what I think!
Response: Well it was so good, I started another one by the same author yesterday. I hope you get a chance to read it someday. Totally worth it. My tbr pile is also a mile high, but i completely ignore it most of the time and just read whatever the hell I feel like.
JeanetteC rated for mpu: whud i miss? PC on May 8, 2017
Comment: Great themed PC (loved the saying on the back, very timely). Thank you for the book suggestion. I added it to my list. I read many books by her while in High School but that one does not sound familiar.
Comment: Love the ATC - it looks great! And thanks for the coffee washi sample - I need to go find where I can buy some :)
Response: I'm so glad you liked it! As far as coffee washi goes, someone gave that one to me, so I wouldn't even know where to get it myself!
Comment: Looking at this ATC makes me happy! I love flowers. This is so pretty and I love how you blended the background too.
Response: I'm so glad you liked it! Thanks for rating!

Thank you so much for the mpu: randomail! I was smiling from ear to ear after I opened up my package from you. My husband couldn't figure out why some mushroom tape would make me so happy! LOL!

Thank you so much for the mpu MMH ATC! Mushrooms are one of my favorite subjects! Also where did you find the mushroom washi? I've been looking everywhere for it!

midwestkiwi on Apr 1, 2017:

Your piece of randomail did in fact brighten my day! Thank you. I love how it is somehow both random and cohesive all at once.

JeanetteC on Mar 24, 2017:

Wow that arrived quickly! Hope you have fun playing =o)

oblivionspin on Mar 17, 2017:

Really?! I never would have guessed you were new to it (let alone unconfident about it!) if you hadn't told me! The composition and cohesion were both totally on point. Definitely keep collaging! (:

oblivionspin on Mar 16, 2017:

I love the randomail postcard you sent! I don't know why, I love collages so much, but the act of collaging just doesn't click with me. Lucky me I can enjoy it vicariously! I really like the quote stamp on the back as well, probably going to have to photocopy it so I can stick it in my journal. (: thank you!
