I'm a 21 year old college student. I'm studying Women's Studies and International Affairs. I guess you could say I'm a bit of an idealist. I'd love to be able to change the world, but practicality is starting to set in.
I will be graduating in 6 weeks. 'm applying to grad schools right now. It's taking over my life.
I've recently decided that I want to do a triathlon. I'm dealing with a shoulder injury now, but I am really excited about this idea.
I love knitting and crocheting, and I've recently rediscovered embroidery. I learned to sew when I was 8 years old, and still enjoy making clothing as well as smaller items.
My latest obsession is finding ways to use vintage magazines in craft projects. Lately, I've been making boxes with vintage images lacquered to the tops.
I've also been doing these multimedia pieces with small wooden beans glued onto painted canvases. I'm working on a triptych of trees right now.
I also enjoy jewelry making and paper crafts, although I don't do either as much as I once did. I still have a lot of scrapbooking stuff, but I've decided I like to simply put my photographs in albums. I'm more likely to make cards or just decorate letters.
Really though, I like all crafts, although I've never been a painter or a drawer. Give me random objects and glue, and I will be quite happy.
I'm pretty musically open minded on this one, although I am not a fan of country, R&B, religious music, or violent and degrading rap. I'm a total sucker for hits from the 80s and sometimes listen to musical cast recordings. I also miss going to punk shows.
A few favorites off the top of my head: Alix Olson and spoken word artists in general. Andrew Bird. Ben Folds. Brandi Carlile. De La Soul. Jack Johnson. No Doubt (in their glory days). Northern State. Pink Floyd. Rasputina. Red Hot Chili Peppers. Regina Spektor. Rilo Kiley. Simon and Garfunkle. Tegan and Sara. The Who.
It seems like everything I read these days is for school. That said, I love essay collections and short stories, provided they are interesting. Anything GLBTQ except cheesy mysteries. Books on gender and sexuality (I'm a women's study student). Barbara Kingsolver. David Sedaris. Dorothy Allison. Fiction with well developed characters.
Amelie, The Wizard of Oz, and Little Miss Sunshine are my all-time favorites. I'm not a huge movie person. I tend to like artsy, independent things, intelligent comedies (especially dark ones), and some dramas. I refuse to watch horror or thriller movies as I will have nightmares for days.
Community, Glee, The L Word, Make It or Break It, Six Feet Under, Toddlers and Tiaras, Weeds
And GYMNASTICS
Betty Page, books, bookmarks, anything Burts bees, black and white photography, beads (especially glass or wood ones), black lace, board games, books and bookmarks, anything circus, cute children, dance, dots (the candy), dark chocolate, embroidery floss or patterns, fishnets, green, anything gymnastics, lotions (especially more natural types), music (I still love mix cds!), pin-up girls, purple, rafting, rainbows, strawberry, reading, rock climbing, Scrablle, skiing, tea especially chai, teal, vintage kitsch, water skiing, writing, yarn (especially soft natural blends, I have enough novelty yarn to last a lifetime)
eggs (I'm allergic!), overly cutesy things such as Hello Kitty, pink, religious images or symbols, stuffed animals, team sports, things that do nothing more than collect dust
*Books and Magazines: comic books, old sheet music, encyclopedias, dictionaries, or children's books (in any language, especially wanted are books with thin pages), vintage magazines (especially Women's/fashion magazines)
*Embroidery related: patterns (especially iron on or transferable patterns), threads (I love variegated and metallic threads, and I always need more skin tones)
*Stickers: I coach gymnastics for kids ages 2-18, so I love stickers I can give to my students. I'm one of the few people on here that will gladly accept reward stickers, as well as any other kid appropriate stickers in all shapes and sizes. However, they shouldn't be only "school" related. That said, I also love all kinds of artsy or beautiful stickers.
*Charms and whatnots that can be attached to string.
*Old costume jewelry.
*Belt Buckles and purse handles.
I don't expect to get any of these things, but it might tell you a little more about me. And hey, you never know.
*A black velvet blazer, preferably vintage. Women's medium.
*Cute underwear. I can never have enough. Bikini, hip hugger, boy shorts styles. Usually a Small, unless it's a junior store that runs tiny, then I go with a Medium.
*New bicycle helmet and bike pump
*Backpack- Seriously. Any backpack!
*New Wallet- but it has to have two clear pockets for picture IDs, a spot for bills, space for credit cards, and a zipper pocket for change. I'm very particular. And it must be half size.
*Some sort of soft case for my laptop
*Cheese slicer
*Larger barrettes for thicker hair, or medium size "claw" hair clips.
*Goodies from Trader Joes. We don't have one near us, and I love pretty much everything there (although I'm allergic to eggs).
