I live in a rural area in the state of New York, and have been part of a "stitch and bitch" circle in the past. I like to craft, have tried many things in the past, like silk painting, jewelry making, tee shirt painting, embroidery, cross stitch... The crafts that have stuck with me over time have been knitting, crocheting, sewing and rag rug making. I love yarn and felting. I have discovered atcs and am now addicted to making them. I am a vegetarian.
I play piano and concertina, and have been a part of several amateur bands, playing a wide variety of music, such as contra tunes, irish, cajun and zydeco, old time and bluegrass. There is a large community of musicians in this area and there are many opportunities to play for dances and jams.
My fav is ballroom dancing, which is where I met my husband. I also enjoy going square dancing and cajun/zydeco dancing.
I like thrillers, mysteries and chick lit. One of the funniest book(s) I've read are the Sophia Kinsella Shopaholic series. I fell in love with the book "There is no Place Like Here" - it explained where all my missing socks are. A few books I have read multiple times are the Harry Potter series, the Narnia series, Robert Heinlein's "Door into Summer", Anne Rice's "Belinda", "Night Magic" by Charolotte Vale Allen, classic children's books- "The Secret Garden" and "The Little Princess", adult classics- "Jane Eyre" and "Rebecca". Other favorites are Nick Bancocks books and Edith Forbes "Exit to Reality". Also love the "His Dark Materials" series (Golden Compass, etc)
My all time favorite movie is Random Harvest, a classic with Ronald Colman and Greer Garson. Its the most romantic movie of all time. I also enjoy action movies- the Matrix series is another favorite. I love the Wizard of Oz, still! I am a sucker for romantic chick movies like Pretty Woman, 50 First Dates, Just Like Heaven and Sleepless in Seattle. Other favs are the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Dead Again.
Bright colors, primary colors, and pastels - I stay away from olives and dark tones. I like things that feel soft against my skin.I like altered objects, things that are funky and functional at the same time.
What I really like about swaps is that I get these wonderful items in patterns or styles I would have never thought of myself but utterly adore when I get them. So express yourself!
I am chemically sensitive so I stay away from perfumed products as much as possible. Natural scents like lavender, orange, lemon are ok.
LOVE chocolate.
I have collected Wallace and Gromit items in the past, I have a fondness for cows- but not cutesy cows- only "real" cow items. I like Mickey Mouse as well. NOT into kawaii or real cutesy stuff, or any other disney characters.
I could use any type of embellishments for card making and atc making-brads, ribbon, deco tape, fabric flowers, gemstone stick-ons, anything like that.
I like both coffee (real bean type- not packages that you add water to) and most teas- I tend to avoid mint tea for some reason.
I have recently fallen in love and bought way too many paperchase "spacers" and "pet chopz" products- totally fun! These are a good example of fun-functional products.
Anything that came from an animal ( except bees) - leather, food products with animal ingredients, beauty products with animal ingredients (ie no gelatins, beef jerky, etc). I also dislike licorice.
I am not crazy about the "cute" collectible things that are popular ie Blythe, kawaii, etc.
I am allergic to wool (as in wearing) but am fine with wool accessories like felted purses, or wool coasters, boxes etc.
We don't have tv so all the show I watch I get from Netflix. Recently watched the entire Battlestar Gallactica series (2003) on DVD, loved the Firefly series, watched the first 2 seasons of Heroes, and am waiting for Lost to finish so I can start that series and know it will have a real ending.
I love animals and own quite a few. I have Jack Russell terrier, an Akbash (turkish sheep guarding dog), 4 DSH cats and an African grey parrot.
If you like to recycle/swap check out swaptree This is a computer driven site on which you list books, cds and dvds that you own and want to get rid of, and you make a list of items you want. The computer matches up your wants and haves with someone else and you swap. No charge except what you pay for postage!!
