I've been laid up with a broken wrist, not to mention dealing with a sudden move. As a result, I've fallen behind with my swaps but will hopefully be caught up in the next week or so.
I'm a graduate student in Literature and Linguistics, as well as an English instructor. I love language, love books!
When I'm not studying or teaching (and even when I am), I'm a full-time mother to a precocious seven year old girl named Alexandra. She loves to spend time with me scrapbooking and working on other crafts like jewelry making and cross stitch.
I took a lot of photos on my recent trip to Australia and am now looking forward to scrapping and archiving them - and reliving such a wonderful experience!
I love music - and have a great appreciation for pretty much every genre. I'm constantly listening to pop music with my daughter, but also like to expose her to some country, classical, jazz, and anything from the eighties (from Wham to Bon Jovi)...
Rather than being specific in this category, let me say that books ARE my favorite.
I'm writing my thesis on Shakespeare and I love medieval drama - but I also have a weakness for 20th century (and 21st century!) African American women's literature.
Historical fiction is what I read for pure entertainment, though. I just finished a book about Eleanor of Aquitaine.
I love Casablanca, Pillow Talk, Strictly Ballroom, Brokeback Mountain, and Disney's Sleeping Beauty.
I love to scrapbook and make crafty little things. I'm getting into making ATCs and also enjoy making baubles (jewelry and other fun accessories).
I think crafting is an awesome activity to enjoy with my daughter - we have a great time making things, spending time together, and exploring our creativity.
I'm about to start my newest project - altered and embellished clipboards! I can't wait to post the results of both my own and my daughter's endeavours!
My favorite color is orange (I like bold and exciting things) and my daughter's favorite is pink.
I have a great love of things that combine the two colors in funky ways.
Bright and warm colors make me happy - jewel tones as well.
I love colors in general, though - which is why colors have been given their own category on here!
I don't like cinnamon or root beer.
I'm allergic to verbena and certain laundry scents (such as Bath and Body Works' Cotton Blossom).
I don't dislike television, but I prefer to avoid it. I'd rather watch an old movie.
Scrapbooking embellishments
Fairy items - preferably good fairies
Nose studs
Bangles
Photo frames
Coffee!!
Gel pens (especially glitter ones!)
Bookmarks and/or bookplates
Refrigerator magnets
Benders
Sachets
Anything from my Etsy favorites! ( kylie76 )
Alexandra is a very loving seven year old - loving in that she loves pretty much everything! She is actively involved in girl scouting (Brownies), as well as dance (ballet and hip hop) and community choir. She loves animals - tiny little animals that she can arrange in miniature habitats are her weakness. Littlest Pet Shops, or the tiny little animals you can get at a craft shop... She adores them! Alexandra thoroughly believes that she will be a pop star when she's older, as well as a champion race car driver.
While I love getting things for myself, any swapper is welcome (and perhaps encouraged) to focus their packages towards Alexandra - especially if it's for "stuff" instead of scrapping papers.
She also collects Benders, pins, Volkswagen Beetles, hair accessories, horse items, and books (2nd grade reading level at least).
She stays away from anything Bratz, My Scene dolls, and anything that seems a little too grown up...
Favorite scents:
Lilac – Honeysuckle - Ylang Ylang
I also collect Disney pins and my daughter is beginning her own Disney pin collection (as well as one from Hard Rock Cafes around the world).
I like vintage patterns, old movies, and love to combine the classic things I love with the more modern and funky things that are "me."
Oh, and as my studies revolve around Literature and Religion (and the effects of religion on literature), I have a weakness for including these themes in other areas of my life...
Specific themes I gravitate towards include...
Dragons
Lionesses and all things Leonine (I'm a Leo)
Pigs (cutesy is great!)
Dragonflies & Butterflies
Guinea Pigs and Hamsters (we have two of each)
Fairies (preferably the good kind)
Books! (my hobby, my field, my obsession)
Theatre - plays, musicals...
Shakespeare (love it!)
Mariology - through writing on it so much, I've developed a recent fascination with Virgin Mary beliefs, worship, and imagery
My Melody - I like Kawaii in general, but have loved My Melody since I was a little girl
Tinkerbell
