About Me

I am an elementary Art Teacher and I love my job, even when it's overwhelming.

I love to knit and spin.

I have a small collection of Back to the Future toys and a small collection of James Jarvis figures.

I have been married since 2005 and my husband recently graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in Painting and Drawing. We have one daughter, born in 2006, and she also loves to draw. She is in a dual language program at my school where she is learning Spanish.

I lived in Germany as a child (in Schwetzingen, which is near Heidelberg) and would love to meet a German pen-pal around my age (I'm 31) with similar interests. I would appreciate any messages in German, actually. I can still read and comprehend without a problem, but I am out of practice speaking and writing.

I Like/Love --

Carl Sagan, Legos, Nanoblocks, Tacos, All things Back to the Future, Bears, Mid-century modern furniture, Scrabble, Funny Swatch Watches, Street Art, Coffee, Midwives, A good breakfast, Propaganda posters from WWI and II, Tetris, Harvest Moon, Zines, A good pen, Funny handmade creatures, yarn, feminism, human rights, global politics, Muppets, tiny robots, NaNoWriMo, Pen Palling, Texas History

Colors: Brown, Orange, Blue

Comment: This was really fun to read. Sounds like each of these experiences were important and had an impact on your life. I also think it's extra cool that you got to meet some of your favorite musicians, what a gift that must have been.

Comment: Thanks for the lovely postcard. I'd never heard of Cindy Sherman. How odd that woman walked away from the museum based on one guy's opinion. I know what I'd have told him ;)

Comment: Wow! Thanks so much for the amazing zines and postcards and tags! I love the idea of weaving using paper as a loom, and the handspun is beautiful! I never knew about Wayne White ... now I am curious. My husband and daughter are huge PeeWee's playhouse fans. So much to rattle around in my little brain that it has taken me a couple days to get to thank you -- thanks so much!
Response: I'm glad you liked everything! I saw last night that the Wayne White documentary (Beauty is Embarrassing) is on Netflix streaming. Most of his work does contain "offensive" words, so may not be approprite for the whole family. That kinda stuff doesn't bother me, but just to give a heads up :)

Comment: Wonderful Zazzly postcard! My grandpa met Buffalo Bill on a train once -- it is a family legend. The photo is really interesting -- now I am going to have to read about Indians who worked for Buffalo Bill again :) Thanks for the band recommendations!

Comment: I'm so happy to get this PC from you of the historic photo of women in uniform knitting - I've actually purchased and sent it, but it's so much better to get one in the mail! Your knitting projects are lovely! I'm too impatient to do anything that requires a strict gauge!
Response: Great! Thanks for checking out my work :)

Thank you so much for your marvelous letter and the enclosures! I want to keep the yarn out and fondle it, but I bet my cats do too ;) I'll will reply as soon as my brain & time allow.

I'm with you on the Zazzle PCs - a lot of our local stores are selling local artists' postcards that are printed via Zazzle or Vistaprint. It doesn't bother me, but I know some people feel very strongly about store-bought cards.

I just invited you to be a member of Classroom ATC. Have you ever thought it would be fun to have you kids trade art with other students from around the world. I'm an art teacher from Minnesota, USA and I want to do a ATC trade with other art teachers so we can have a professional conversation to see if Swap-bot might assist in Classroom ATC Trades. Join our swap and group if you want to learn more.

I got your letter today! I will write back soon!

ohpossum on Aug 21, 2010:

Hope, i apologize for not writing you back (after our postcard journal thing) - I think you're way cool and still plan to carry out my letter writing campaign. I HAVE actually started a letter, but I just can't seem to get my act together on finishing it... sorry I'm such a slob! Ann

Oh my! Thanks for the adorable mini zine you sent, angelling the pen-pal intro zine swap! It's so great (but I don't know what you meant when you said you used 'Pandora'. Eep! I don't understand American references sometimes)

(Also, I just about died when you said you had a friend who knew all the Elephant 6 guys!)

Just wanted to let you know I received the first postcard in the June Diary Postcard swap today - you sound like fun!

Thanks so much for the Theme a Day Journal you angelled for me! I've enjoyed reading it while waiting for my son to get out of school. As far as me participating in another one, I'm not sure if I'm going to. I kinda feel burned with journal swaps, always needing an angel and the like. Thanks again, truly appreciate it! You're truly an angel.
