About Me

I am a fiber artist and have been for about four years now. I have been quilting for about 12 years.

My husband and I have a cute little Yorkie who keeps me company while I work in my studio. (I'm using her picture for my avatar.)

Please, do not send me anything with artificial sweeteners like aspartame!

Favorite Books

I love Lord of the Rings, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Mercedes Lackey, and Anne McCaffrey, Juliet Marillier, Stephanie Meyer (I'm with the vampires), Marion Zimmer Bradley, Melanie Rawn. Basically anything fantasy. :-) I also like historical fiction.

Favorite Music

Some of my favorite music groups/musicians are Lorena McKennit, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Nickel Creek, and Moxie Fruvous.

Favorite TV & Movies

TV: Gilmore Girls, 4400, Dead Zone, Battlestar Galactica, Grey's Anatomy (my mother sucked me in), House

Movies: Lord of the Rings, Serenity & Firefly, The Holiday, Boondock Saints

Favorite Crafts

I quilt mostly (art quilts), but I knit a lot, too, and I also spin yarn on a drop spindle. I do some beading and embroidery, but not as much as I used to. So many obsessions, so little time!

Bright green is my favorite color. I love the combination of bright green, bright blue, purple and black. Basically, anything jewelry-toned or bright. I also love red and black together. I DO NOT like pastels or muddy colors, or neon yellow or orange. I also like pink & brown together and pink and white.

Fabric I use mostly bold, brightly colored fabrics in my work, so please don't send me any fabrics that are pastel or very country. While fat quarters are fine, I also like receiving fabric pieces larger than that (1/2 yard, 1 yard, etc.). Tone-on-tone or marble fabrics are fine and very useful, but please do not send me any solid colored fabrics! I do not use them!

Types of fabric I use a lot or am looking for:

  • Batiks
  • Bright green
  • Bright blue
  • Bright purple
  • Bright yellow
  • Black, White, Red, or any combination of those
  • Fabric with gold or silver metallic on it
  • Cupcake
  • Japanese/Asian style
  • Christmas
  • Valentine's Day/Love/Romantic
  • Sheep

Fabrics I DON'T use so please don't send:

  • Country
  • Pastel
  • Baby/Little kid related
  • Large florals (unless they are batik)
  • Thimbleberries

Yarn I knit a lot of kitchen stuff, so I use a lot of worsted weight cotton like Sugar 'N' Cream. I also like to knit socks and lace, so I love lace, fingering, and sport weight yarns, but I like heavier weights as well. I especially love anything hand-dyed!!!!

I do not use any acrylic/polyester yarn unless it is a novelty yarn like fun fur, etc.

Paper Goodies, Etc.

I always include a little message on a notecard in my swaps, so I'm always looking for nice blank notecards. I also love square notecards and anything made by Tree Free Greetings or Leanin' Tree.

I DON'T like cutsy or country stuff or americana/primitive.

I love pretty/strange/funky pens, memo/note pads, sticky notes, mini stapler kits, etc. I don't really like pencils. I really love pens. I also need some new memo pads/stationary to write swap letters on, preferably relating to something on my profile. (Dragons, fairies, sheep, butterflies, etc.)

Tea

I am involved in some tea swaps, mostly for my husband, who loves tea. (I am trying really, really hard to like tea, but am having a hard time LOL!) My husband prefers white or green teas, but is very open to trying new ones. However, he does not like plain black tea, lemon, peach, or chai tea. If you really want to make his day, his favorite tea is pomegranate.

Loose leaf tea is very welcome, too, for any tea swap or as an extra, as long as it is clearly labeled.

Dislikes

  • Anything with aspartame/splenda in it!
  • Americana
  • Primitive/Country
  • "Cutsy" things (example: cartoonish or little kid-type stuff)
  • I do not like pastels or muddy colors, hot pink or neon yellow or orange as main colors, but they are fine in small amounts or as accents
  • Anything Halloween related
  • Stuff with Disney characters on it
  • Magnets, Keychains, or pencils (Unless they are directly related to something on my profile, for example: a sheep magnet or dragon keychain, etc.)
  • Tourist brochures
  • Anything that smells like cigarette smoke
  • Nothing with shrimp in it - I don't like it and my husband is allergic

Likes

  • Bright, wild colors
  • Notecards
  • Lizards, dragons, butterflies, koi (Japenese goldfish), frogs, fairies & elves, turtles, Sheep
  • Tea & Hot Chocolate (especially Cadbury - yum!!) Please, NO artificial sweeteners like aspartame or Splenda or "Diet" or "Light" drink mixes
  • TimTams - I'm already addicted! Dark Chocolate TimTams = instant heart!!!
  • Beads and buttons
  • Good-quality cotton or silk fabrics (by good quality, I mean NOT Joanne's or Walmart, etc.)
  • Funky pens (Dollar Stores are great places to find unusual pens)
  • Yarn (Not acrylic/polyester!)
  • Spinnable fiber (Wool, silk, cotton, angelina fiber, bamboo, etc. Anything with long enough strands to spin into yarn)
  • Varigated/Hand-dyed peal/perle cotton for embroidery or knitted bookmarks
  • Pretty stickers
  • Anything Asian
  • Vintage postcards
  • Vintage Christmas stuff
  • Fancy silk/rayon/cotton etc. threads for hand-embroidery
  • Things with Autumn/Fall images or Autumn colors
  • CHOCOLATE!!!! I would LOVE chocolate or candy, gum, mints, etc from other countries!!!! (Nothing with aspartame please!)
  • Cute Tissues to put in my purse (please, no plain tissues.)
  • Fun Chapstick/Lip Balm
  • M&M stuff - my first name and my husband's first name both start with the letter "M" so I collect M&M stuff. And yes, we do like the actual candy :-)
  • Shaped paperclips (Swirls, hearts, stars, squares, etc. Please don't send me regular, plain paperclips.)
  • Reusable market bags (handmade or store bought)
  • Tape measures
  • Small scissors for my knitting bag

Some things I can send

  • Hand-knit kitchen stuff (dish cloths, dish towels, hand towels)
  • Hand-knit baby bibs
  • Hand-knit bookmarks
  • Hand-knit cupcake dishcloths/stuffies
  • Notecards
  • Tea and Hot Chocolate
  • Fabric
  • Chocolate, gum, mints, etc.
  • Local reusable shopping bags
  • I'm open to suggestions, too, if there is something else you would like me to send
