About Me

Hello!

I am a recent graduate living in the wonderful city of Brighton in England.

I love the art of letter writing and writing by hand in general (having been confined to computer-typing during most of my school career for sake of convenience and time).

I'm on and off Swap-Bot as and when swapping inspiration takes over me - don't worry, I will always complete the swaps I sign up for.

Favorite Music

Nowadays I mostly have music on in the background as a noise-blocker or when I have company, so I don't pay overmuch attention to what I am listening to. I mostly listen to chart/top 40s music, sing-along indie, and classical, but most genres of music will please my ears!

Favorite Books

Now that I am no longer obligated to spend all of my time reading for my degree, I am devouring books very quickly! Currently reading: 'The Gender Game' series by Bella Forrest. Genre-wise, I greatly enjoy fantasy, YA, a bit of sic-fi, and fiction in general. I'm not much into crime/thriller/detective novels, non-fiction, or historical novels (although fictional romantic historical novels do capture my attention).

Some books that I've enjoyed reading and would read again:

  • "The Name of the Wind" and "The Wise Man's Fear" by Patrick Rothfuss

  • Harry Potter series/works by J.K. Rowling (I am a Slytherin)

  • "Ink" by Amanda Sun

  • "Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger

  • Earth's Children Saga by Jean M. Auel

  • "Memoirs of a Geisha" by Arthur Golden

  • "Perfume" by Patrick Suskind

  • "Cloud Atlas" and "The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet" by David Mitchell

  • "How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional World" by Charles Yu

  • Classics by Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, some Shakespeare, George Orwell...

  • Books by Cecelia Ahern, John Green, Sophie Kinsella, Jill Mansell

I also really enjoy poetry. My favourite poets include (but are not limited to) Carol Ann Duffy, Thomas Hardy, John Donne, Dylan Thomas, William Blake, Philip Larkin, R S Thomas, Norma MacCraig.

Favorite Movies

  • Harry Potter movies

  • Hanna

  • V for Vendetta

  • Scott Pilgrim

  • Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit

  • Pretty Woman

  • Eat. Pray. Love.

  • The Chronicles of Narnia

  • The Imitation Game

  • The Hunger Games movies.

The movies I usually watch have romance in them, however, as you can see from the above listed, the movies that really stay with me don't have romance as a main theme (filling out my profile is allowing me to discover myself all over again!)

My favourite actress is Julia Robertson. Anything with her in it, I will watch. I also love Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Saoirse Ronan, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Tom Hanks.

Favorite Television

I mostly watch TV to unwind or procrastinate these days; as such I like shows that have short episodes. Some shows I'm watching currently:

  • Please Like Me

  • Easy

  • Mr. Robot

  • Rick & Morty

Some shows that I've watched in the past and enjoyed: Black Mirror, Merlin, Sherlock, Gossip Girl, Doctor Who, Grey's Anatomy, Vampire Diaries, Archer.

Send Animals Some Love Too

I love animals. I am vegan. This means that I don't eat any meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy, honey, or any other food that is derived from animals. I also do not buy any products that contain animal-derived ingredients or that have been tested on animals.

If you could please avoid sending me the following:

  • Any food that has animal ingredients (including gelatin, honey, etc.)

  • Products that contain animal-derived ingredients or that are not cruelty-free (if the product does not explicitly say cruelty-free, or does not have the leaping bunny logo, it is most likely not cruelty-free).

  • Things to do with hunting/killing animals. I don't want to know about/see these things.

Thank you in advance for being considerate.

On that note, if you are a fellow vegan or if you cook yummy vegan meals then I'd love if you shared some recipes with me, especially simple, can't-go-wrong recipes!

Things I Would Love

  • Postcards: ones that have something to do with the things I like (please see below for more ideas), black&white, vintage/vintage advertisements, odd postcards, PCs showing nature.

  • I love tea. I like black tea and green/white teas. I also like some flavoured/chai teas (e.g. blueberry muffin, mulled wine spices, rose). I don't like smoky teas such as Lapsang Souchong.

  • Books. Any book/book recommendation that you think I might like!

  • Same with movies and TV shows that you think I might enjoy.

  • Photographs! Especially ones which you have taken yourself. Of anything whatsoever - but explain why you chose the photograph if it's not obvious (e.g. if it's a picture of a swing set, it could be that you have many childhood memories there)

  • One of the things I like most is to get to know about who has sent me things. Whether this is a 10-page letter (always very much appreciated and enjoyed!) telling me about your life story, or a short note about something that has made you happy today, I always find it very interesting.

Things I'm not so interested in receiving: -

  • I'm not currently planning on doing many swaps requiring craft things, so please don't send things like ephemera, ATC blanks, stamps, buttons, other things used for crafting. I just won't use them :)

  • I'm always trying to downsize my collection of belongings, and don't have space for things that are not useful/valuable to me. Things like animal products, non-vegan recipes, the craft items mentioned above, and blank unwritten postcards (unless I sign up to a swap specifically for this) will go unused by me.

Comment: Thank you for telling me about Hemingway's 'The old man and the sea'. I have never read the book, but it sounds like it should be on my reading list.

Comment: Thank you for sharing your weekend with me. I have been to Brighton many years ago. I am not a vegan but I do eat lots of tofu so was very interested in your recipes that you made eg. cauliflower, cashew and tofu curry. Enjoy your trip to Bath.

I absolutely adore the headdress stamp as well, but unfortunately there was no cancellation mark, but pen scribbles. :( I would really love to be your penpal, we have much in common. Just in case I get your address wrong, pretty please DM me your address. Awaiting your address eagerly :))))

Comment: Thanks for the fantastic card! I had zero issues when I became a vegetarian, but vegan was really difficult. Cheese was one of my best friends. It's been a while now, and I don't miss it much anymore.
Response: Cheese is definitely the most difficult to give up! I think if I find a good substitute for cheesy pizza and quesadillas I'll be able to let go of it hahah. Thank you for your rating and heart!

Comment: Thank you for sharing! I know you didn't really like the ending, but from what you've told me, it has certainly piqued my curiosity! I'll have to add it to my TBR list. Thank you!
Response: Now that it's been a bit of time since I've finished the book, I would recommend it, if only for the writing style and the thoughts it provokes - it's certainly very interesting if a little (a lot) disturbing! Thank you for your rating and heart!

Comment: Such a delightful little package! I was so excited to see the wrapping paper on my doorstep (I cut out some of the balloons for my smashbook), and was giddy at the sight of my chocolate! I haven't had a real kinder surprise egg in over two years. Lucky me! And the other bars look super fun, too. Can 't wait to try them. Thank you!
Response: I'm so glad you liked everything! I thought the wrapping paper was just too pretty to not share :) I hope you enjoy all your chocolate and that you find fun surprises in the eggs!! Thank you for your rating and heart :)

Hi there! I received your package yesterday! Thank you so much for ANGELING the rubber stamp swap for me! It was very sweet of you and I LOVE the stamp set you sent!!! I was so excited and surprised to see that the mail was delivered! We have been having below zero temperatures (Fahrenheit) and tons of snow/sleet/freezing rain!

Thanks for the "I feel like writing about..."letter. I enjoyed reading about the places you've lived. We moved a lot when I was a child, but I never had to learn another language! Although I am known to use a regional turn of phrase that raises eyebrows every once in a while.
