About Me

You will probably notice, if you read on, that my tastes are extremely varied (in fact if you didn't read on, you would probably still manage to find something to please me - especially if it is unusual or obscure in any way). I am a mother to a beautiful 3 year old girl (and yes, I am one of 'those' Mums who speaks about her child constantly - she is the cutest little baby genius in the world.) I am also Mum to our new fur-baby - a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Rudy.

I have recently realised I need to consider myself a writer. Although I am unpublished and unpaid, writing is a field where you have to actually work hard at it before you can ever consider it as a serious vocation.

My crafts and things...

  • I like to sew - I make dolls, teddy bears and fairy skirts for my daughter and my sister as well as bags sometimes, but I am not what you would call talented and they are quite special to me, so I don't swap sewn stuff (but would love to swap patterns etc)

    • I like making envies from scrapbooking paper, wrapping paper, magazine pages and calendar pages..

    • Scrapbooking, and related crafts (card making, making my own albums etc).

Colours, patterns etc...

I love love love the colour purple!! My 2nd fave colour is blue and I love the two together and purple and green together too. I am not a big fan of pink or yellow, but I can tolerate them ;). I do like the odd paisely pattern but not bold geometric patterns.I also like the old faded postmarked/mappy background print(if that makes any sense!!) Anything unusual too...

Animals

I (and my daughter) love all types of animals. I do have a big soft spot for those not usually loved (snakes, reptiles, snails -so cute! etc). I love frogs, turtles, ladybugs my most favourite animals are the Hippo and Elephant and Dragonfly. I also get a big kick out of all things flamingo, polar bear, sea-horse, dragonfly and gecko (oh yeah, and Meerkats)!

Favorite Books

I love books in general - so does my daughter (and my husband)- the three of us would be happy to sit and read all day!

I read children's books (picture and novels), fantasy, classics, horror (Joe Hill is my favourite horror writer atm) biographies, you name it! I do enjoy a lot of the recently popular series including TrueBlood (Sookie Stackhouse series), Twilight, I love Harry Potter. My favourite book of all time is "Lullaby" by Chuck Pallahniuk (author of Fight Club) and enjoy most of his books (except 'Haunted' - worst.book.ever). I also love reading Dean Koontz - I adore the Odd Thomas series especially. Romanitas trilogy. Wicker. To name but a few. I am reading a heck of a lot of Dr. Seuss right now too! And I love it. And the Gruffalo!! :)

Favorite Television

Fringe!!! The Good Wife, Dexter, House. True Blood (the books are better though). Glee, SVU, How I met Your Mother, Buffy, Modern Family, Heros, Lost (though I still haven't finished all the seasons of those two). Homeland. New Girl. But I really get into the toddler programming :D Waybuloos are just great! Sesame Street, Play School, In the Night Garden, Humf, Charlie and Lola... I do have a soft spot for these :)

Favorite Movies

I am a bit of a movie buff (well i was, before becoming a Mum;)). Inception Rocked My World!! Some of my favourites include Signs (I like all of M. Night's movies except the Happening- Worst movie ever!!). Juno, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Napoleon Dynamite, Law Abiding Citizen, Fight Club... if I were a director (I wish I were) - I would love to direct Lullaby as a movie (my favourite book). Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Ella Enchanted, Enchanted, 27 Dresses. And the Gruffalo!! And while I do like the twilight books, I am not a fan at all of anything to do with the movie(s).

Favorite Music

Compilations and Soundtracks

  • Triple J Hottest 100, Almost Alice, Juno soundtrack, Glee albums, Romeo and Juliet soundtrack, I am Sam soundtrack

Covers, I love covers - She Will Have Her Way, Like a Version,

Bands

  • Green Day, Flight of the Conchords, The White Stripes, The Streets, Kaiser Chiefs, Kimya Dawson, The Cat Empire, Butterfingers, Vampire Weekend, A Perfect Circle,

Comment: Sorry for the slight delay; I needed to take the time to read it first and it came just before a particularly bad week for me. I really enjoyed getting to know your character (I can see why you said you couldn't find a perfect photo for him--I did mine in reverse as it was a new character, finding a photo and then building the character around that). I loved his letter to me and the fact that he isn't sure about all the dates/technologies at different years (it's funny, but I'm sure someone 100 years ago would be annoyed that I didn't know when certain things were inveted/around either). Anyway, thanks for sharing and I hope you found the exercise useful!

Comment: Loved your autobiographical tale as it was so close to what I wrote about! Such a nice, long read too!

Comment: Thank you, a fascinating story with lots of hidden plot that I'm contemplating. I see lots of short stories that are more hinted than told. No real idea of time or place but some hints. Hmmm.
Response: Thanks for the feedback, June. I suppose like to leave some elements to the imagination rather than spoon feeding everything - I like to read stories like that too. (Although as I had pointed out to me - the swap only asked for a 'scene' rather than a story :))

Comment: Thank you for the amazing postcard. I love it. You're the second person that has talked about reading Game of Thrones. I must look it up. :)
Response: Thanks for the rating :) I highly recommend Game of Thrones and you can always catch a peak of the show if you're unsure (I read another, smaller George RR Martin book, Fevre Dream beforehand to see if I liked his writing style, because GoT is somewhat of an epic :))

Comment: Great excerpt! I really wanted to read more! It reminds me of some of the romance novels I've been reading lately - warriors who would do anything to protect their women. Yum! Good luck writing!
