About Me

A Me Update: For swappers who are still waiting or whose mail has been misplaced, I have unexpectedly spent the past two months in the hospital. No covid-19, but an emergency surgery that had repercussions. Not fun. I am home now and hoping to be caught up shortly, and then I think I had better stay away from swaps with deadlines.

Covid-19 Update: Ran into a postage issue because of physical distancing, but now I know exactly how much I need to put a letter directly in a mailbox. The Canada Post hotline says some places are experiencing a delay in delivery, so please be understanding of late swaps. If I need to, I will resend. Also, I live on my own and am at high risk for Covid-19, and only go out for dialysis. That means I have to wait for my sister and brother-in-law to come by and pick up my mail to send. It isn't always when I want them to.

I have a fascination with stars, whales, and hearts, sticker flakes, textured stickers, washi tape and zentangles.

I have had a liver transplant and a heart transplant, and am currently getting assessed for a kidney transplant. Dialysis three times a week, so I am spending a lot of time at home crafting.

Other details about me can be found below.

Favorite Music

Where do I begin?

Music wise I am a fan of movie soundtracks. My tastes then range from Alanis Morissette to the Barenaked Ladies to Sarah MacLachlan to Sara Bareilles to Alison Krauss to Queen to Abba to Simon & Garfunkel to John Denver to Maria Callas. The list above is only a small sampling of the collection of music I have on my computer.

I also have an affinity for music from 1997 to 1999, as that is when most of the school dances I went to happened during that time. Also, I'm partial to R&B guy bands such as All 4 One and Boyz II Men. (This partiality extends to N'Sync and Backstreet Boys for some unknown reason. :) )

Favorite Books

I read a lot. Mostly I stick to young adult books and classics, my favourite authors being Ian Bone, Ann Brashares, Chris Crutcher, Sarah Dessen, Jean Ferris, Jasper Fforde, Anne Fine, Beth Goobie, Lois Lowry, Wendy Orr, Jerry Spinelli and John Wyndham, to name a few. I am a huge fan of Canadian teen fiction as well.

Still, I will read pretty much anything I can get my hands on from science fiction to non-fiction.

At the moment, I read Canadian teen fiction almost exclusively. This is because my job is to promote such books. I have a podcast called YA Write! which is in its second season and is available on Google podcasts and iTunes.

Favorite Movies

My favourite movie is Garden State. I like romantic comedies, and my sister and I are on a quest to find the 100 funniest movies (in our opinion.) So far on that list are What About Bob? and The Money Pit.

I am not a fan of horror movies at all. I enjoy science fiction movies a lot, and documentaries to a certain extent.

As with books, I am on the look out for movies about people dealing with chronic illness. I am aggravated by bad transplant movies of which there seem to be a lot, but I watch them because I like to point out where they go wrong. (Don't get me started on Seven Pounds or Crank: High Voltage.)

Favorite Television

I check out new tv shows often. I am still a Survivor fan, and I also watch the Food Network a lot. Since I am a sci fi fan, I am looking forward to Star Trek: Picard and the new seasons of Star Trek Discovery and The Orville.

I am a huge fan of Saturday Night Live and I tend to watch a lot of medical tv shows like Grey's Anatomy, The Resident, The Good Doctor, etc.

Favorite Crafts

I love to knit and crochet. Currently I am working on a crocheted baby blanket but I have other projects in the works as well. (I'm not always good at staying on task. :) )

I do origami, I paint, and I'm pretty much willing to try new crafts at least once. I'm a creative person and I love opportunities to stretch my creativity. Recently I was introduced to Zentangles, and they are so much fun! There's a website called tanglepatterns.com that has an endless amount for me to try, so I am doing my best.

Postcards

For postcards, I am pretty much up for whatever you want to send, and homemade pcs are also fine. I just ask that you don't send me advertising pcs please.

Likes

Random things I love: Stickers (not stickers with words), chocolate, peppermint, collecting coins from different countries, yarn, patterned paper, ribbons, olives, journals, knitting and crochet patterns, christmas ornaments, washi tape, sticker flakes, zentangles, textured stickers, anything to do with stars or outer space. I love, love, love washi tape with stars, as recently I ran out of my own.

Swap Info

I do my best to send my swaps on time, but often they don't get mailed till a day or two later, because I can't mail them myself. Please be patient, as I never flake and you will get it eventually. I will extend the same courtesy to you.

Comment: Love the postcard and the sweet story about libraries. The county I work for consider us essential so I am still working (which is a blessing since I have bills!) but we are closed to the public, offering curbside service to limit contact with the public. It’s scary either way, though. ❤️
