Not swapping until after the election
I try everyday to be a decent human being.
I work as a logistics coordinator sending rail trains across North America, though my degree is in English literature. I planned to go into folklore studies in graduate school, but life got in the way. I may eventually find my way to graduate school but for now I read and collect.
I am engaged and have a 4 year old kiddo in my life who calls me stepmommy. He likes alligators and crafts. We have a project to work on each time he is with us. My fiance is a collector of foreign currency and wants to travel the world with me. I'd love to but we just cannot afford it yet. Maybe someday....
I will mark sent as soon as the mail is in the box - though the mail carrier may not pick up until the following day. This helps me keep track of my swaps. Also, I rate as soon as I pick up my mail from the box.
If you do not receive something from me when you are supposed to, please reach out. I've had people do this in the past and then receive two packages from me but I will always resend to satisfy the swap. I will reach out to you if I do not receive a swap as well. That's only fair.
I love love love working in my visual journals, which are filled with written words (poetry, ideas, and thought entries) and visual representations of my current feelings and circumstances, though one might look at them and think of junk journals.
I make cards for loved ones and for pen pals, create yearly planners for friends and family, make jewelry, and practice very simple photography in everyday life.
I love folklore so if you have a local story you'd like to send, it would likely get you a heart!
I make and collect ATCs and inchies. Something about the challenge of limited space to make art appeals to me. I'm trying to expand my collections but it's slow going right now.
I love almost anything by Kurt Vonnegut, Neil Gaiman, Joseph Heller, or Tom Robbins. I've read enough of the classics to know that I enjoy the absurd situational humor of contemporary literature more than the dry dialogue based humor of canonical literature. When it comes to the classics, I like dystopian fiction such as Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World, and 1984. I also truly enjoyed all of Anne Rice's books.
I'm a fan of action movies, especially cheesy ones from the 80s and 90s or the ones with actors from them. I especially like First Blood, Terminator, Predator, and Alien. I also like parody movies, such as those by Mel Brooks from around the same time. Examples are Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Dracula Dead and Loving It, and Men in Tights.
Natural gemstones (black tourmaline is my favorite but opal is my birthstone), Owls, Cats, Trains, Witches, Goddess figures, Myths, Legends, Fairy tales, Flowers, Turtles, Frogs, Jewelry charms, Poetry, Skeletons/Skulls, Old photographs, Stencils, Lists, ATCs, Postcards, Handmade cards, Peppermint, Old floppy disks (the actual floppy kind), Vintage anything, Loteria (Mexican Bingo), Foreign coins, Candles, Quirky magnets, Halloween, Dia de los Muertos, Milagros, Stars, Quotes, Stories, Cool office supplies, Buttons (Badges), Coffee, Herbal or Fruit teas, Washi tape, Planners, Blank notebooks, Maps, Glass or Wooden Beads, Dark chocolate, Scraps of other people's used paper, Anything interesting or unique, Something you made!
Black teas, religious items, lip gloss, cigars, Disney characters or themes, anime, anything overly cutesy, plastic beads, fabric (I don't sew)
Purple! Blue, Black, Dark Brown, Red, Gray, Green... Mostly I just don't like pastels.
Disenchantment on Netflix, Justified starring Timothy Olyphant, Succession on HBO, and shows like Real Time with Bill Maher and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. I've also recently taken to the Witcher on Netflix and Jack Ryan on Amazon.
My all time favorite show will always be Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
I used to be into punkish music (think mostly Riot Grrl bands like Bikini Kill and Bratmobile but also stuff like Dead Milkmen and Dead Kennedys) but now I'm a bit more chill and listen to stuff like Barnes Courtney, Dorothy, The Neighbourhood, The Heavy, Arctic Monkeys...
I love postcards with little messages on them. I like the strange ones best - no postcards of hotels, homes, or statues unless they are very odd, please. Strange can be anything from morbid and off putting to just slightly odd or off kilter. Whatever you think would best be left in my hands.
If you are able to, always send handmade cards! I love seeing what other people can do with the space and how it flows through the mail system.
But please send naked and stamped.
