Favorite Crafts

I enjoy crocheting, knitting, and sewing/quilting. What I like the best about doing these is creating items for charity or for my family.. I am making washcloths and slippers for The Pink Slipper Project who provides these items for women and children escaping domestic violence situations. I also participate in Project Linus who gives blankets to children from birth to age 18 who are suffering some kind of trauma. It keeps me busy.

I also scrapbook sometimes and I have created some jewelry items, but not for a long time.

Favorite Music

I am a church musician - I play piano and organ. My taste in music is very eclectic. I reserve my judgment on a style of music or a specific selection until I have heard it. i love to hear and play with violins. They are my favorite.

Favorite Books

I love to read. Presently, I belong to two book clubs, one is general and the other is a classic book club. My favorite classic books are "Les Miserables" and "The Scarlet Pimpernel". I like epic stories, historical fiction, fairy tale retellings, time travel, fantasy and occasionally a young adult book. My daughter is a children's/young adult librarian, so I get recommendations from her. I'm also working my way through all of the Nancy Drew books in our library, just for fun.

I don't read especially fast, but I can finish 3 or 4 books a month if it is a good month.

I like to do reading challenges, but only to challenge myself - I rarely sign-up for prizes or anything.

Favorite Movies

My husband and adult daughter and I are in the process of watching all 22 Marvel movies. We are really enjoying them!

I love to go to the cinema to see movies, but I don't get to do it very often.

Favorite Television

I watch television shows on Netflix or Amazon Prime and very seldom on TV. As a matter of fact, we recently gave up our cable TV service and went back to using an antenna. It works for us.

I like epic family dramas. I watched every episode of "McLeod's Daughters" on Amazon. It is set in Australia on a cattle ranch run by women. It was quite good. I also like "Heartland" that is set in Canada. I just finished "Derry Girls" and now I am watching "Offspring". I also like "Outlander", "Poldark", "When Calls the Heart", "Mozart in the Jungle", "Jane the Virgin", Victoria", "Northern Rescue", and "The Crown."

Every once in a while I watch a series in a different language than English. I have watched "The Grand Hotel," "The Time Between", "Cable Girls," and "Velvet" in Spanish and "Seyit and Sula" in Turkish - with subtitles, of course.

Food/Drinks

I am trying to follow a low-sugar, low-carb diet to reverse my Type 2 diabetes; however, if you are sending me cookie recipes, my family LOVES cookies and they can eat anything.

I eat chicken, turkey, pork, and ground meat, but I rarely cook steak or pot roast (although I eat Grandma's). I try to have one or two meatless meals a week. For lunch I have a GIANT salad and I don't eat breakfast. .

I love chocolate, but I have been trying to avoid it until my diabetes is under control.

I like most teas. My favorites are Constant Comment, Plantation Mint, Orange and Spice, Earl Grey, Apple & Cinnamon, Raspberry Zinger, but I will try most anything.

Comment: Sharon, Thanks so much for the Amish PC. It's amazing you sent that... I spent the day with my cousin and his wife yesterday, and they are Mennonite (his dad, my uncle is a Mennonite preacher)... It was really nice to see the picture on the postcard. Haven't been to PA for about 40 years... but loved it when I was there for a few days. You need to get that soup and molasses cookie recipe and pass on to me!! Good luck with the birthday card you want to send (fingers crossed) :-)

Comment: OOH. I had to look up the book when you said it was so popular, and now I'm curious if it is a true story, or based on one! I will have to check it out. Thank you for sharing and the tea! I love lavender :)
Response: I guess it is not a true story, but the author has plenty of experience with the wildlife in the Marsh. Her life story is also interesting.

WnWHS Great American Pies Month Profile Swap

I enjoy many different pies, but my favorite has always been walnut pie. My mom and I would gather walnuts from my grandfather's tree and I would help to crack them. It is made the same as pecan pie, but uses walnuts instead of pecans.
