About Me

I am a retired office manager and private secretary of a large electronics servicer in the Seattle area. I lost my dear husband of almost 50 years six years ago. I have four great children and two granddaughters. My two daughters are my best friends and we do a lot of fun things together and have zany birthday themes with lots of games and prizes. I've been making and sending cards to friends and family for many years and it is one of my favorite hobbies. I love doing personal cards for people with special embellishments for each occasion. I make my own envelopes and like to coordinate the colors and shapes. I like lots of good books, TV, music and e-mailing. I love writing long letters to friends and My Soldier Program. I've received some nice answers from some stationed in Iraq or Dubai.I also like the sunshine, plants, holiday decorating, sorting through old photographs and keeping up my kids' baby books, scrapbooks and enjoying my family, friends, home, and patio garden. I was an avid Trekkie and attended many conventions....even in costume! I published a Trek newsletter for several years and personally interviewed Gene Roddenberry, Majel Barrett, George Takai. James Doohan (Scotty) lived just a few miles from me and I saw him often. As a Federation Envoy I welcomed him to many of the local premieres of the Star Trek movies. Also took Dave Prouse (Darth Vader) out to lunch and he and my daughter corresponded for a bit while he was back in England where he had a health club. He was a lot of fun. All my family were Trekkers and I have a huge collection of Trek 'stuff' and other sci-fi memorabilia, as well. LIVE LONG AND PROSPER!

Favorite Music

I listen to jazz most of the day on my computer, but like classical, 'moldie oldies,' boogie, big band, blues, some country, easy rock and just about everything except rap.

Favorite Books

I read all kinds of books...mysteries, romance, biographies, and usually have a stack of them from the local library. I have read and re-read a lot of Jane Austen's books and madly in love with Mr. Darcy! (Colin Firth)

Favorite Movies

I watch a lot of movies from Netflix and get all the latest and a lot of old favorites. My favorite actors are Kevin Spacey and Colin Firth...right now! A couple years ago I received a nice letter from Kevin from the Old Vic Theatre in London (where he is the artistic director) after sending him a letter with a picture of my birthday cake with tons of his pictures on it! My daughter made it and it was a real surprise! Colin is my favorite Mr. Darcy, but I like him in all of his roles. I have most all of Kevin's movies on DVD and am a member of a couple of his fansites.

Pets

I have an all black kitty name Pi and she is my constant buddy. I've always adopted all of my kids' pets over the years and she is the last one!

Favorite Television

I like documentaries, The History and Discovery Channel. Frasier, Seinfeld, Jeopardy, Boston Legal, Army Wives, all the CSI shows, Alias, LOST, NCIS, Family Guy,Cold Case, British cop shows, major league baseball, football and a lot of PBS and Masterpiece Theatre programs.

Comment: Thank you very, very, very much for this wonderful swap! I love the stones you sent to me and thank you for the information, too. :D There is no Rock Club here, but I collect my stones and information wherever and whenever I can and love using them. Stones have always been very special to me.
Response: Hi! I'm so glad you liked the stones. They are so interesting to learn about and I just got a new book, "The Crystal Bible, " by Judy Hall, that tells about most everything you ever wanted to know about rocks and crystals. Thanks for the heart. It was my pleasure to send them to you way over there!! Ruth

Comment: I LOVED your note and postcard! It made me laugh! I'm originally from Spokane, so it was wonderful to get a postcard from my home state. A lot of the birds are hanging out here for the winter, and we're finally getting some fall colors, but I know it's nothing like up there in WA. And I LOVE your handwriting! Thanks again for your postcard!
Response: Hi Jennifer! What a surprise to hear you are a former Washingtonian! You have gone from one end of the country to another! So, that's where all our birds have gone? Don't see many around now. We're getting our usual Pacific Northwest rain, but the Autumn colors are still lovely. My son lives near Pullman and granddaughter going to school in Spokane. It's a small world. Thanks for the heart and the nice note. Ruth
