About Me

I am a 45 yo practicing Muslima writer living on a small farm in the SE USA. My children are grown, so I am free to garden and do crafts to my heart's content.

Favorite Crafts

Project Quilting

Recycled items (giving old items new purpose - like handbags made from felted sweaters or jeans)

I have just started making jewelry and am having a lot of fun with it.

I like learning new crafts - especially 'folk arts'

Favorite Television

Heroes Lost Ugly Betty NCIS The Mentalist Castle

Favorite Music

Kareem Salama (country) Andrea Bocelli Joe Jackson James Morrison Super Chic Jackson Browne (not the popular stuff that he had to do to make the money, but the actual socially responsible songs that made people think about important issues - in other words, the songs the radios will never play - as with Tracy Chapman)

Favorite Books

The Qur'an

Stories from Islamic and Arabian history

Wicked: The Untold Story of the Wicked Witch of the West

The Hand that Rocked the Ladle (by Tamar Myers and all the books in that Amish series)

Son of a Witch (2nd part of the series)

Craft-related how-to books (any and all types of crafts)

Tom Clancy Novels

Things I like to receive

Rolags or Batting from natural fibers (dyed or undyed)

Crochet supplies

Homemade Felt or needle felting supplies

Homespun or any "natural" yarn

Anything cat-related

Accessories for Spinning (wheel or drop spindle), crocheting or weaving related accessories (I live on a farm and make my crafts from animal to end-product).

DIY Craft Kits (I'll try anything)

Anything with a Sunflower Motif (to match my kitchen)

Interesting baskets or basket-making supplies (accessories, reeds, raffia, whatever)

Handwoven items

Cross-stitch kits

accessories for handmade paper or card imprints

Natural Candles or candle making supplies

I love sturdy tote bags (I use them instead of grocery bags when shopping).

Handmade (or not) scarves and shawls (nothing glittery, poofy or showy) I need ones that actually cover the hair completely when put in a triangle, or wide enough if it is a lengthwise one - I wear these when I go out. (practicing Muslimah)

Pet-related items (cute collars, sweaters, bandanas, etc. for one or more of my 8 cats [Amira, Ziggy-boogy-doo, Princess, Climber, Eyes,Whiskers, Buffy and Nimr the bobtail] and 1 medium sized Australian Shepherd named Appalachia or "Apple" for short)

Scarf pins or scarf holders (no gold-plated that will chip off - I love silver). I use them to close my scarf under my neck - so nothing that has jagged edges that might stab me in the neck.

Herbal Teas or Flavored Teas (esp. any kind of berry)

Dark Chocolate Shavings for Hot Chocolate

One million dollars (I thought I would throw that in there, just in case someone was in the giving mood)

Anything apple-scented or using apple pectin (son and I are allergic)

Anything even hinting of alcohol, sex, or foul language

Black wool (I have 8 cats, so I would basically be wearing their fur as it shows up so well on black)

Crafts that depict humans or animals (no dolls, etc. - still life is fine or distorted pictures without complete faces) or cookware (like mugs with cats are fine).

No Holiday-themed items please

Please do not send food items without checking with me first (I don't eat anything with pork or it's derivatives, alcohol, etc.)

Favorite Colors

Blue (all shades)

Warm Earth Tones

Yellow (for kitchen stuff only)

Peach (for kitchen stuff or yarn-related)

Comment: Great! Both are wonderful! Thanks!
Response: The one with Arabic writing on it is from Palestine and is made from olive tree wood. Glad you liked them.

Comment: I can't wait to plant the flowers! Thank you so much for all of the goodies ~ especially a green 'Sharpie' pen :) I loved it!
Response: You're quite welcome. They should be a nice attraction for butterflies. Glad you liked everything. :-)
Comment: Thank you so much for the wonderful explanation of your faith, the 33 worry beads and the sage. (I'm afraid the postal service completely torn apart the string the beads were on)
Response: That is such a shame that they undid the beads. I actually had two sets - one were the worry beads and the other was a bracelet size with a star on it to put around something (Jar top or similar) to represent your wiccanish side (they were attached by wire). I take it that all the beads were dismantled?? Glad you liked the rest though. :-)
Comment: thank you, i prefer more bagged tea, this tea has not even information of what it is
Response: I wrote what tea it was on the homemade packets that they came in - they are written in the edges. Sorry if you missed them of if they are clear enough. I guess on the next swap people should write to their partner if they have preferences - I notice that you have that in your profile now, but I am not sure it was there before. I have a hard team reading profiles that aren't divided into categories sometimes. Sorry to disappoint. :-(

Comment: Thank you so much for the roving - I never spun bamboo and I am really looking forward to it!
Response: You are most welcome. I hope you have fun with it! Tonight I plan to spin some of that same brown baby alpaca and every once in a while throw in some of that bamboo.
Comment: Thanks for all the wonderful tea! Thanks for resending the missing tea!!!
Response: You are very welcome - sorry about the confusion!

Comment: Hi, Lamyaa. I wish I could give more stars. Great package--very thoughtful! Thanks so much.
Response: I am glad you liked them, I was nervous since you had sent such a nice package in our last common swap.
lov2bcreative rated for ~H~ Recipe Postcard Swap on Nov 12, 2008
Comment: thank you, looks yummy!
Response: You're welcome. (make sure to add lots of parsley if you want to battle the garlic breath or at least some after meal breath mints - the garlic really makes the flavor come out - but it can clear a room if no one else is eating it too).
Comment: Thank you for the teas! They smell really delicious. Can't wait to taste them. :)
Response: Enjoy!
