17th of November: Regarding stamps. The only South African international letter stamps I can get hold of at the moment are of wine (I think this is an attempt to promote our winelands) I am very sorry if you do not like wine/alcohol in general and receive an envelope with one of these stamps on it from me - I have no choice :( New ones will probably only come out in January. They have also stopped supplying the "airmail stickers" that go with an international stamp as they say it is costing the post office too much money. I've started writing on the word "airmail" - I'm not sure if this will actually make it go any faster but it's what the PO does! I am also sending out all Christmas swaps by the 24th of November as I have been advised by the PO that any going out later than this will not arrive before Xmas.
9th of November: I hosted my first swap, it was a lot of fun: Christmas in a matchbox
18th of October: Special request, if you're sending me Christmas decorations (which I love) I would appreciate ones that I can hang rather than ones that sit on a table etc. Thank you! I obviously won't rate down if it's not a hanging one (just a cheeky preference).
Cape Town embroiderer, curator, creative writer, 27, female and human.
I studied art history, curating, English literature and creative writing which all feed into my interests. Talking of which: another is food. All food. Love cooking and hand written recipes (note: I am a vegetarian and I don't eat seafood either). I'm trying to learn Spanish and I spend my free time embroidering and playing Dungeons and Dragons - yes, I am a nerd.
Currently I live in Cape Town, South Africa (my hometown) in a tiny little flat with my partner (Jacques) and way too many spiders! I've lived in CT most of my life except for a while in the U.K. (Loved living there and I do miss it sometimes). I work as a curator in a giant archive in the city center where I do more admin and less curating than I would like. As stated above I am 27 but I feel like I've always been 40 and I certainly dress like I was born in the 40s. I'm a member of sendsomething and postcrossings and I will make anything I send you look pretty (promise).
Clothes, cats, coffee, vintage everything, old kitsch stuff, most art, writing (of course), chocolate, anything that's been sewed, Virginia Woolf, Catholic iconography, kawaii, miniatures, the colour pink, pale yellow, magic, true crime, podcasts, Studio Ghibli, swimming, all water, antiques, second hand clothing, thrift shops, charity shops, grocery shops, (all shops?), lists, cooking and baking, gin, dancing, botanical prints, The Arts and Craft Movement, William Morris, old maps, Jacques, feminism. I don't like exercise unless it is funtime dancing or swimming. I have trouble breathing (it's a long story but, basically, my nostrils are messed up on the inside and they don't let in enough air).
So many! Write me and I will give you a list. But here are a few: To the Lighthouse, A Room with a View, Howards End, Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter, The Secret History, The Hottest Dishes of the Tartar Cuisine, Lolita, On Chesil Beach, Lydia Davis short stories, Miranda July short stories, Mary Gaitskill short stories, Lorrie Moore short stories, (a LOT of short stories).
Rothko (I know he's not contemporary but I had a moment when I saw another of his works in Madrid last December). Ps. I loved Madrid so much! Pps. I love Lisbon just as much! (also got to go there in December).
Gilmore Girls, Twin Peaks, The Wire, Arrested Development, Freaks & Geeks.
I often don't get to choose which films I watch. Jacques is doing his PhD in film so we watch a very wide range of stuff: some of it really good, some of it really bad. My favourites right now are "Mulholland Drive", "Memories of Murder" and "Spirited Away", "The Royal Tenenbaums", "Rear Window". But they change frequently.
Dressing well and eating too much.
I really like plants and flowers but everything I grow turns out a disaster.
Talking of things I'm bad at: Can anyone help me? I want to add some images of the art I make but I can't figure out how to do that. Someone more tech savvy please help me. Update: Rockybeach helped me enormously by telling me to take a look at @homeanheart 's profile. Anyone needing tech help look there!
*Anything MFM related (My Favorite Murder Podcast)
*Anything vintage, anything old.
*Anything with William Morris prints/designs.
*Miniatures (I really like small versions of grocery products eg. I have a 1 inch milk carton).
*Vintage botanical or vegetable pages.
*Hanging Christmas decorations for December - handmade ones would be extra special.
*Tiny embroidery hoops (about one inch or smaller) for necklaces and brooches (you can't get them in SA so I have to import them). Like these
*Paperclips and small pegs in interesting designs or shapes
*This is a bit weird but I would like a Kewpie doll.
*Catholic iconography or little statuettes, especially of the Virgin Mary.
But otherwise anything linked to my interests. Preferably no Disney stuff or beauty products (I don't use them much) and I like tea but I have so much right now (obviously won't rate down if I get tea or if a swap calls for it). Although I like kawaii and stickers I'm not into anything too childish. Phobias: The muppets and all other sock puppets. Just writing that made me feel a bit queasy.
It can be quite slow. We have had a few strikes over here this year. If you do not get your post within six to eight weeks of me hitting "sent" then please, please message me and I will resend - I don't mind resending and I would rather do that then you don't receive anything. I click on "sent" after I have dropped off the mail at the post box outside my local post office. They usually have two pick ups a day but only one on weekends so bare that in mind.
This is me out of focus:
