about me:

Hi, my name is Ami ... novice adult / micro adventurer / smile seeker

My interests range from the extremely juvenile to the mildly sophisticated. I consider myself a treasure hunter of the five senses. The best adjective to describe me would be the most flattering definition of silly. I'm not ashamed to tell you that I have a slightly geeky disposition and am often an anxious mess ... but I try to approach life with a Homer Simpson-esque attitude: WOO HOO!

I live on the east coast of Canada in the province of New Brunswick, and although I find it peaceful and picturesque, it can also be tremendously boring. Making mail fun is just another way that I make rural life less monotonous

I'm not a crafter per se, but I enjoy checking out what others are creating and from time to time I'll give something new a try

likes:

miscellaneous:
sci-fi, robots, fairy tales / fables, baking / desserts, kitschy / geeky things, Nintendo / gaming, tea time, going out for ice cream, my dog / your dog, yellow rain boots, giant tortoises, things with tentacles, fruit bats, chance meetings with fluffy tailed squirrels, chatty birds, hooping, toy yo-yos, paddle ball, 80s cheesiness, umbrellas, kites, bubbles, quotes, mythology, hot air balloons / airships, vintage wire frames ... like birdcages and dress forms, coin-op rides, Jeep Wranglers, the macro settings on my camera, men who smell nice, matryoshkas, farm life, perfume, zombies, Johnny Cupcakes, Canadian symbolism / pop culture, Nike, luxury sleeping, hugs, strangers, making lists, my iPod ... in Soviet Russia, iPod listens to you!

colours:
peridot green, charcoal, sunshine / buttery yellow, pink accents

smells / flavours:
rhubarb, honey, coconut, pineapple, sweet pea, rum & butter, bayberry, grapefruit, butterscotch / caramel, spicy apple, maple, licorice / anise, honeydew, cherry, bergamot, baby powder, orange Creamsicle

patterns:
argyle, polka dot, circles, novelty prints, bright rainbow stripes

artists:
Meomi, Amy Sol, Audrey Kawasaki, Natalia Pierandrei, Juri Ueda, Susie Ghahremani, Salvador Dali, Tom Kidd

reading:
vintage science fiction, classic juvenile literature, adventure, avant-garde, women authors, philosophy, psychology, semi-autobiographical

I love the smell of a bookstore / library and the sound of a page turning. I'm a word nerd. My bookshelf is overflowing

music:
The Tea Party has been my favourite band since I was 14 years old. I'm an advocate for most Canadian music

television:
retro toons / kiddie programs like Mr. Dressup, Voltron: Defender of the Universe, She-Ra: Princess of Power, Jem and the Holograms, The Friendly Giant, The Hilarious House of Frightenstein, Rocket Robin Hood, The Smurfs, The Mighty Hercules, Captain Power and the Solders of the Future, The Muppet Show, The Raccoons, Degrassi Junior High / Degrassi High, Transformers, Astroboy, Duck Tales, Garfield and Friends, Fraggle Rock, Muppet Babies, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Spiderman, Thundercats, Captain N: The Game Master, Inspector Gadget, Count Duckula

I've got a soft spot for 80s action like The A-Team, Airwolf, Magnum P.I., Knight Rider

I'm a hardcore fan of The Simpsons

I ♥ Star Trek! Voyager is my fave, followed by TNG, DS9, TOS and TAS respectively. Enterprise is omitted from that list because of its suck factor

characters:
Mary Poppins, Lion Force Voltron, Kermit the Frog, She-Ra, Homer Jay Simpson, Brainy Smurf, Sarah Connor, Lt. Commander Data, Lt. Commander Tuvok, Captain Kathryn Janeway ... W.W.J.D.?

dislikes:

scary / outright awful:
clowns, monkeys, your cat, butterflies / dragonflies, NASCAR, most Disney animation, Shakespeare, jazz / bluegrass / country music, skulls, teddy bears, Matt Damon

I would rather not receive:
scrapbooking materials, ephemera, paper bookmarks, clear stamps, friendship books, earrings, sour / Wonka / gummy candy, green apple or ginger smells / flavours, anything containing Aspartame, Kool-Aid / Crystal Light or any cold drink packets, gum, incense, products specifically for the bathtub, Earl Grey tea ... so I'll never be requesting Tea. Earl Grey. Hot. from my replicator

Comment: Thank you so much for the amazing decorated envie and the ATC and the story! The combined story/ATC made me laugh while I was trying to feed the pets at lunch - Small Dog looked at me like he thought I was crazy. (This is not entirely unusual behavior for Small Dog.) You are wonderful and deserve all the hearts. Thank you for making me smile on an otherwise dreary Monday!
Response: Is his name actually Small Dog, 'cause that would be a riot! My small dogs' name is Patrick Stewart ------ I hope you think of my envie if you ever have a bad day at work ... maybe lasers will shoot out of your eyes? Maybe ... it could happen ;) Thanks for the love <3

You are too funny. :) I really love how you made the page look aged and tattered...it does look like it has been through the zombie apocalypse, so mission accomplished! Thanks so much for the awesome art and for hosting such a cool swap! :)
Response: It smelled like it went through the zombie apocalypse too! When I put it in the envie, I thought, wow: you're really gonna smell that I had been burning it ... did the stink wear off? :p FACE EATING!!!

Comment: Thank you Ami! I love the ATC :D You drew it so well, I found drawing Lisa a bit of a struggle :O Hmm as for the 2 episodes that inspired it I'm thinking the episode in which Lisa prints and distrubutes her own newspaper 'The Red Dress Press' and the episode in which she tries to get the bus to the museum on her own & gets lost? Am I right? Do I get a cookie? XD Thank you again!
Response: The cookie is yours :p I can draw Lisa well enough but my markers bleed too much and made her look a bit like an old tattoo! Oh well :) I'd do this swap theme again anytime! Thanks for the heart <3

Oh Captain my captain! The Zelda swap is up :)

BrianaShaeHall on Jan 28, 2012:

That's great, I love your ATC's! I think two might be fair for a zine. But I'm not sure, because I haven't traded zines before. XP Let me know if you don't agree.

kiwivandal on Jan 26, 2012:

I second that @PezPiece

BrianaShaeHall on Jan 25, 2012:

Hey, Ami!

If you're interested in my Animal Crosszine, I'd be more than happy to send you one! In exchange, I would take anything I collect, or anything on my supplies wishlist or general wishlist on my profile. I would love something handmade by you, but I'm not too picky. :) Let me know if you want the zine and we can set up a private swap.
