About Me

I am a self taught artist and photographer. I took my first photograph at the age of 17 and some 45 years later I'm still at it. About 5 years ago, as an accidental outcome of restoring some old slides, I began to make digital paintings. I have a photographic archive of at least 10,000 images, but I still keep taking new ones, although largely now as source material for my digital paintings.

As well as digital painting, I get messy with the real stuff, make mosaics, collage and jewellery. I'm now really enjoying printmaking and especially love monoprinting and collagraphs.

I also sell my pictures from various sites:

*my own web site (http://www.panchromatica.co.uk)

*Etsy (http://panchromatica.etsy.com)

*ArtFire (http://panchromatica.artfire.com)

*DaWanda (http://panchromatica.dawanda.com)

I read and listen to music a lot. I have no idea how many books I have - it must be '000s. I never seem to be able to get rid of one without acquiring 2 more!

Everything I send comes from a smoke free and animal free house.

I like...

I'm getting into assemblage, so I have accumulated a host of odd 'things'. I can't think of what else to call them, but have a look here: (http://www.ipernity.com/doc/panchromatica/5300584).

I also make collage, so I am always picking up random images and illustrations, especially in other languages and scripts.

I make ATCs both digitally and OOAK, using found material, cut up prints, paint and whatever is to hand at the time. Take your cues from the fact that I like ATCs first as art, and only incidentally for swapping.

Ephemera, especially vintage or in languages other than English or in other scripts.

Maps and charts

Old photos, especially of workplaces or street scenes (look at http://www.shorpy.com/ for what I mean), school photos, carte de visite etc.

Interesting textures, peeling paint, rust, faded signs or graphics.

I would prefer not to receive explicitly faith based material, although I am happy with imagery - icons, the Buddha, Hindu pantheon etc.

Also I like Dia del Muerte type images but not Halloween. (Yes I know I'm picky...)

Not for me...

I don't like 'cute' so kawaii, big eyed girls, fairies and other fey or whimsy stuff are not for me please. (Unless they are the sort of fairy who would live in a Terry Pratchett or Neil Gaiman novel.)

I don't use stickers, so any sent as extras would not be used. Sorry.

No explicitly faith based material like prayers or texts, although I am happy with imagery - things like icons, the Buddha, Hindu pantheon, etc.

Comment: Thank you so much for the wonderful ATC!!! The paper is fantastic too!!! What did you use on it??
Response: I think the paper would be made as a monoprint with acrylics. Basically when I finish painting I just smoosh (technical term!) the paint around on the palette, (I use an old plastic vegetable chopping board, so it is smooth) then lay a piece of watercolour paper over the top and roll it. Sometimes I get two off by misting the palette or the paper and doing it a second time. I keep meaning to do a 'how to' for my blog.

Comment: Thank you for the lovely ATC. The photo it amazing. And thank you for the stamps and extras to craft with. Aloha.
Response: Glad you liked it. The original photo was colour slide, but it had faded so badly I could only make a B&W image from it.

Comment: Thank you for the very cool ATC! and extras...Did you make the card? I loved it all~ thanks!
Response: I can't remember if I packed your ATC in a note card or something else. I have some note cards printed locally from my digital images, but I also usually include some prepared paper/card made by monoprinting. Is that what you mean?
