I'm at school right now and haven't been participating in many swaps lately, but if you message me I will get an e-mail about it.
I live in rural Canada where the mail is often slow. I'm patient about it as long as there is good communication, and I hope that swap partners will extend me the same courtesy.
If something I send you doesn't show up, please let me know so that I can try to fix the situation.
I am a university student. I like to read, write, cook (and bake, which helps keep my sweet tooth happy), listen to music or CBC radio, hike, swim, cross-country ski, and do various craft projects. I especially enjoy working with interesting paper, fibres, and fabric scraps, because I lack good drawing and painting skills. I also learned to knit a couple of years ago, and it's become a bit of an obsession. I consider myself very lucky to live where I can spend a lot of time outdoors. I'm not too fond of things either overly cute (e.g. real kittens are nice but Hello Kitty is overly cute) or overly dark/gothic, but I seek out the beautiful or quirky.
I support organic and fair trade when possible, and in general I value quality over quantity.
I'm allergic to green bell peppers, although I can't imagine why that would be an issue on this site. Also, many types of scented items (e.g. candles and lotions) can trigger migraines for me, so I prefer to avoid scented things unless they're made with essential oils.
To listen to: Older rock and country, alt-country, blues, bluegrass, classical, folk, Celtic, zydeco... pretty much anything except for rap and pop.
To play: Intermediate-level flute music. I played through high school and am in a community band, but I'm definitely not an expert. I'd love to learn other instruments someday and have been looking for a good instructional book for beginner harmonica (any recommendations?) because I like the idea of having music I can carry in my pocket.
I read a lot, and I'll read almost anything except self-help and romance, but lately I've been reading nonfiction (science, history, and travel) and fantasy (especially humorous fantasy like Terry Pratchett). I'm always looking for interesting short stories, because they're easy to read between classes - if I read a novel, I run the risk of getting sucked into it and being late.
Knitting, beading, card making (and other papercrafts), chip carving, origami.
I've been thinking about learning to spin, but I haven't tried it yet.
At the moment, blue, green, and black. In general, I like dark or rich colours and neutrals but am not so fond of neons, pastels, or most shades of pink.
Natural fibre yarn (or mostly-natural blends, e.g. sock yarn with 25% nylon for durability).
Knitting needles and notions.
Wood, metal, glass, bone, or shell buttons.
Paper with interesting patterns or textures.
Fabric in colours I like. I'm especially fond of batiks lately.
Natural soap or lip balm.
Tasty treats (candy, snacks, tea, chocolate - I love dark chocolate especially, but if you're sending it in the summer please be sure to wrap it well).
Handmade notebooks/journals.
Handmade magnets.
Hair clips or pins that are not too childish.
Oak, dandelion, or sailboat-themed items.
Watercolour pencils (doesn't have to be a full set, individual pencils are fine).
... or Can't Use.
Things I'm allergic to.
Makeup.
Bath salts or other bath items (we don't have a bathtub).
Earrings (I don't have pierced ears).
Kawaii or Disney items.
Religious items.
To be mailed: None right now.
