Swap Homepage:http://www.flickr.com/groups/handmade_bag_swap/
Swap Coordinator:SharonP (contact)
Swap categories: Crocheting  Crafts  Fabric
Number of people in swap:172
Last day to signup/drop:March 5, 2007
Date items must be sent by:March 26, 2007
Number of swap partners:1
Description:

This is for all of you who like little things and have lots of scraps and remnants you'd like to make stuff with. So, make a little bag, pouch, tote, purse, or whatever you want to call it, and then put something in it just for fun before sending it off.

SIZE GUIDELINES: small but large enough to actually hold something, so picture anywhere from a coin purse to a paperback book. Or maybe the size of your hand, how about?

MATERIALS: whatever you like to craft with best, as long as it makes a reasonably sturdy little bag. Knitted, felted, crocheted, sewn, beaded, or even woven paper (but note aforementioned "reasonably sturdy"-- so, probably folded strips of magazine pages, like my friend Carrie uses, or something similarly strong).

STUFF TO PUT IN IT: that's where you get to play snoop -- I'm allowing plenty of time between signup and send so you can study your partner's profile and send a little something you know they'll like. I am not setting a price here, because it may be crafting supplies you have on hand, or you might go out and buy some candy or other treats, or you might like to send something you made (if your partner is into ATCs, you could send some of those, for example). But this is definitely a swap for cheap people who just enjoy making little things and sending them off to complete strangers!

PARTICIPANTS: This is international, newbies are welcome, those with no-sends or ratings below 4.5 will be asked for an explanation, but if you have a plausible one, please do not hesitate to sign up. Newbies are welcome but must have their profiles filled out (the movies/TV shows part isn't important, of course, but the "about me" and "favorite crafts" parts are).

The sample image is toward the large end of the size range, at about 4.5 inches deep (11-12 cm), and I just put some random stuff in it for the photo (including a ruler!). This is a knitted, felted mini tote.

SharonP 02/ 9/2007 #

Hey, there's already seven of us, that's great! Some of you have really great, interesting profiles that give me some good ideas if you should end up as my partner, and some of you could post a bit more information. I recommend that newbies especially take a look at the profiles of other participants to get some ideas of what to put in yours. Since there isn't a spot for your preferences, per se, most people are putting that kind of information in the "about me" section.

Thanks for signing on, I hope this proves to be a fun swap for all.

sharon

SharonP 02/12/2007 #

LOL! There are sure a lot more than 7 of us now! Please feel free to post any questions, share ideas and links to patterns, etc. I am working on a little knitted felted bag and when I finish it I will post it so we will have a swap image.

pootle 02/12/2007 #

I'm itching to get started on this one, but am trying to wait to see my partners likes so I know how big (or little!) to make it! fab idea!

TerryF 02/12/2007 #

I am planning on doing an origami pouch with drawstrings - it's really easy, can be made with 2 FQs, and so pretty. Just waiting to see what colours my partner likes....

SharonP 02/13/2007 #

I Googled "origami pouch" and you're right, those are really cute. Great idea.

SharonP 02/13/2007 #

A tip about profiles -- since I do visit everybody's profile when they sign up for my swap, I have discovered that if you don't put the full URL on any links you provide -- that is, if you don't start with the http:// -- the links don't work, Swap-bot tries to find them within the Swap-bot pages. I had entered my blog url starting with the www. and the same thing happened to me until I corrected it. So, if you want people to be able to just click over to your blog or Flickr site or whatever, you need to enter the full URL starting with the http.

Just thought I'd let everybody know that. sharon

KarlaKC 02/14/2007 #

Oooh, I would love a knit felted bag or an origami pouch... I like to crochet little drawstring bags and enjoying knitting and origami, too! So I'm signing up because you two have already piqued my interest!

And thank you, Sharon, for mentioning the URL situation...I've clicked on a few partner's URLS that weren't complete and had to edit the URL in the URL bar up on my screen. I think a lot of people just aren't aware that their links aren't working. So thanks for mentioning it! :)

funkykchicken 02/14/2007 #

I'm considering a wristlet bag the round one if i can find a suitable pattern to convert.Has anyone else done something similar? I was also thinking of perhaps doing another spa bag they are oh so easy..I would love to have something i can put my my change, cards ect in.

This sounds like lots of fun.Hope everyone will share pictures.

SharonP 02/15/2007 #

I'm not sure what a wristlet bag is, but when I searching for small felted knit bags, I came across a site where someone made what she called a bracelet bag. She posted lots of pictures and directions, so here it is if you want to check it out: http://www.crazyauntpurl.com/archives/2006/03/easyknittedfe.php

SharonP 02/15/2007 #

I don't think that URL copied correctly -- there is an underscore before and after "knitted" and that got translated to italics! I will try putting the sideways carat thingies around it, which might make the url disappear, so here goes:

Bearynice 02/23/2007 #

Hi I\'m Bev from Australia i have sing in and can\'t wait to start. How do we find out who our partner is ? I am only new to this , its my first swap Bev

TerryF 02/23/2007 #

Hi Bev: Check the FAQ Page (top left corner of this page) for info on all aspects of Swap-Bot, including how and when partners are assigned.

Bearynice 02/24/2007 #

Hi it\'s Bev again I didn\'t tell anyone anything about myself on my profile and can\'t seem to get back to edit it . hope I get paired with a dolly person as I made my bag and stuff this afternoon and a dolly person would love it. I myself are into cloth dolls, bears and gollies, my house is full of them.I make and design them.

SharonP 02/24/2007 #

Thanks, Bev, for your questions, and Tassy for responding. Bev, partners are assigned randomly after the signup deadline has passed. As swap host, I have to click a button to initiate the process, but I don\'t actually assign partners and no one has any control over who gets whom for a partner. I have been in international swaps and ended up paired with someone I already know who lives in my own city as a partner! But with so many people in this swap, the odds are pretty good none of us will get someone we already know (and could therefore swap with on our own). But, it\'s all random, so no telling.

As for editing your profile, you probably couldn\'t get in to edit it because you have to log in again pretty often, so maybe your login had expired.

You\'ll figure all that stuff out quickly enough!

alicepalace 02/25/2007 #

IMPORTANT NOTE!! I am moving house just before the SEND deadline. I will obviously change my address when I move. Could I ask that whoever I get as a partner messages/ e-mails me before sending so that i can make sure they\'re sending to the right address?

Thanks :)

user6552 02/25/2007 #

Hi Guys! This sounds like so much fun, can\'t wait to get started!

Deb

mediatinker 02/26/2007 #

My little bag is ready for stuff to put into it. It's a bit of an experimental mix of machine and hand sewing - perhaps towards the "failed experiment" side, but the fabrics are some of my favorites - tobacco velvet with a cherry satin lining - so I can't help hoping whoever gets it will like it despite its flaws.

FunToScrap 02/26/2007 #

WOW! Look how this swap is growing. It is in the TOP TEN now. Please post pictures in the gallery when we start sending and receiving our bags.

SharonP 02/26/2007 #

Thanks for bringing up the gallery, I too would like to encourage people to post pix of their bags. Even though the gallery will prompt you to enter who sent it to you, meaning you are supposed to post pix of the bag you receive, I encourage you to go ahead and upload a picture of your bag before sending, just in case the recipient can't do that or doesn't think of it. It would be fun to see what people make.

A tip on uploading pictures, if you make sure they are no more than about 700 pixels wide and the resolution is just 72 dpi, the size of the picture should be just right and it won't take too long to download.

The gallery will become available after the signup date has passed.

gramsbuttonbox 02/27/2007 #

I have no idea how to post a picture - or what it means by the "dpi" or whatever - I mean, I can take a picture, but what do I do with the photo then when I get the pics back? (I'm maybe very stuck in the 1900's or something here, because I have no idea what most of you are referring to) - or should I just drop from the group before the deadline? MaryB

SharonP 02/27/2007 #

Don't worry about posting a picture, it's not required, and you certainly shouldn't drop from the swap because of it!

It sounds like you don't have a digital camera, and if you don't have a scanner either, you don't really have a way to upload a picture, so none of that applies to you.

If we're lucky, the recipient of your bag will have the technology to share an image with us. But if not, it's no big deal. Most swaps, only a fraction of participants upload images, and I assume it will be the same with us.

teadreams 02/28/2007 #

I just participated in my first swap (ribbon swap) and I am not rated yet. My one partner has received her swap but cannot rate me until swap-bot allows it. I have not heard from my international partner. I hope to have a rating soon. Will this effect my participation in this swap?

SharonP 02/28/2007 #

No, I expect new swappers to be on their best behavior! ;~)

Thanks for letting us know where things stand with you.

sharon

cjkriebel 02/28/2007 #

This is my first swap. I am so excited. I can't wait to start swapping sounds like alot of fun

user6651 02/28/2007 #

I'm a new swapper, so I have no feedback yet. You can view my feedback rating under my ebay seller name, jmculver_gallery.

I have one question: How do I know who my partner is? Do I choose my partner or is my partner choosen for me?

I'm excited to participate in this swap and already have some fun ideas in mind. :)

jessica

SharonP 03/ 1/2007 #

After the signup date has passed, the host (me) is presented with a button to click to get partners assigned, it's then done randomly by Swap-bot. The reason the host has to initiate the process is so she can look over the participants to see if there is anyone who shouldn't be swapping. Although I have been checking the list of participants often and contacting people whose ratings or comments are troublesome, it may still take me awhile to be ready to assign partners because there are so many of us (I will give the list a good looking over at that time), so please be patient when the time comes. Thanks!

Ruthy 03/ 2/2007 #

Sharon, I want to thank you for coming up with such a wonderful swap. My bag is ready and since then I have made one for my daughter and one for a fairy swap (with a fairy :P) and they all came out beautiful. It's been ages since I sew for the last time. Thank you for the "push"...

gramsbuttonbox 03/ 2/2007 #

Ruthy - I SO agree - sometimes that is exactly what we need - a little push, and then find out we really do love what we are doing! Same here...

And wowie, I got a "rating" haha - so does that mean I'm not "new" any longer?

Can hardly wait til I can rate the beautiful bag I received!
maryB

gramsbuttonbox 03/ 2/2007 #

oh...sorry - the "bag" I received could not have been from this swap - no one has their partners yet - oh well, my brain is still asleep! MaryB

SharonP 03/ 2/2007 #

Hey, guys, I have to admit I am feeling a little intimidated by the number of people who have signed up for this swap, so I wanted to give you a heads-up on a couple of things.

I am encouraged that the overwhelming majority of those who are not newbies in this swaps have ratings of 5. It's great to know you can be counted on to follow through and in a timely fashion.

But, there are a few whose rating is less than 4.5, so I have been keeping a watch on those. Some whose rating was lower when they first signed up have since gotten some 5s to raise their average. Hooray for those swappers!

Then there are a lot of newbies. Forgive me if I say that's exciting and terrifying at the same time! This swap is asking kind of a lot of you, to make a little bag, put something in it based on what you think your partner will like, and mail it off by the mailing deadline.

So,PLEASE GIVE CAREFUL THOUGHT TO WHETHER YOU CAN REALLY FOLLOW THROUGH BEFORE THE MARCH 5 DEADLINE AND DROP FROM THE SWAP IF YOU ARE NOT COMPLETELY CONFIDENT THAT YOU CAN.

Also, newbies: FILL OUT YOUR PROFILES! Frankly, I don't think anybody needs to know about your favorite movies or TV shows, but we do need to know something about you and especially about what crafts you practice. If your profile is blank or very very sketchy when it comes time to assign partners, I will drop you from the swap.

Sorry this is so long. The last thing I wanted to say is that it may take me a little while to go through the list before initiating the partner assigning, so don't be surprised if there is a slight delay after March 5 before you have a partner.

Thanks!

cjkriebel 03/ 2/2007 #

I almost have my handbag done I am sooooo excited.

cjkriebel 03/ 2/2007 #

My daughter wants one too guess I am going to be busy making bags.

Windchimes 03/ 2/2007 #

this is a very exciting swap. The fact that it has grown to 160 now, says quite a bit about its appeal and the fun people are having with it. I have my supplies now (had to do the online order thing cuz I live way the heck out) and I am really excited about it too! I wish we could all be flies on the wall and watch our partner open their package!!

Windchimes 03/ 3/2007 #

BTW, whoever has me - if you decide to put treats in, I need to let you know I am gluten intolerant. Gluten is in about everything. For beverage mixes, I can only be sure with coffee or tea (most cocoas do have it and I don't care for cider). Treats are a challenge - safe bets? Nuts (I am especially fond of cashews) or any mixed nuts, Dove Milk Chocolate (no dark chocolate unfortunately), Payday bars. It is really restrictive on treats and if you try to read labels, you will drive yourself crazy and wish you never heard of me! LOL Gluten includes flour of course, but also includes: MSG, maltodextrin, modified food starch - those are the big hidden ones. I would say nuts that are simply roasted are the safest bet (and I love them). But when all else fails, I have a daughter who is more than happy to sample the items I can't have! :)

marcia1977 03/ 3/2007 #

I have my handbag finished and am ready to find out who my partner is so I can fill it with some treats...Can't wait ...

gramsbuttonbox 03/ 3/2007 #

finished my little bag, and it was SOOO much fun to make - it's a little crazy-quilted number, with some of my favorite fabrics, like velvets and satins and brocades - my daughter in law loved it, and asked me to make her one too, so I hope my swap partner likes it also. It will be so much fun filling it with goodies, I can hardly wait to send it.

Have a good week, MaryB

user6732 03/ 4/2007 #

This is my very first swap, too, and I'm really looking forward to this!

user3051 03/ 4/2007 #

okay...i'm in ;) i am hosting a similiar bag swap later and decided i want to particpate in this to see how well it goes

my profile should be pretty detailed, but i'll add some stuff here -- should i be so lucky to get a swap from other than the US i would be very interested in receiving chocolates (just no cherries!) or candies from your country

i think i will wait a day or two so i can craft my bag according to my partner's likes in colours etc

Sharon -- thanks for all the work organizing such a huge swap :)

user6452 03/ 4/2007 #

Hi!

I hadn't realized before that I can leave messages here, too. I'm a newbie to swap-bot, although not to swapping. I'm looking forward to this swap a lot! I've made a little bag, and am looking forward to filling it. I usually do crocheted projects, since that's my favorite craft, but one of these days I want to try my hand at knitting, too.

SharonP 03/ 4/2007 #

After the signup date has passed (which is tomorrow, March 5), I should have the option to activate the assigning of partners. But, since I am responsible to remove anyone who may not be reliable (as far as can be determined) before assigning partners, I have been e-mailing any newbies with blank profiles and others with troubling comments or ratings, and so I want those people to have an opportunity to respond to my messages before I remove them from the swap.

That means that you will probably have your partner on March 6, unless Swap-bot is having issues again, which did occur with another swap recently. I know we are all eager to get swapping, but you'll just have to be patient for another day or two!

user6598 03/ 4/2007 #

Hey all! This is ONE of my first swaps...the other will finish during this one! I am super excited and have a plan, so I just need to see folks preferences! Prepare to be spoiled!

ozrob 03/ 9/2007 #

hkstar - profile deleted. Melon ann - profile deleted.

if these are your partners - don't send to them.

Sharon - can you sort this out please

SharonP 03/ 9/2007 #

Yikes. Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I will look into it.

SharonP 03/ 9/2007 #

I have contacted both of the partners who are supposed to send to them, and it looks like neither has sent yet, so I should be able to reassign them to the people that hkstar and Melon ann were supposed to send to.

I didn't notice any other questionable activity, but I recommend that everyone check their partner's profile before sending and notify me if anything looks fishy.

I do check this message board daily, but I get e-mails throughout the day, so if something looks urgent, please contact me directly.

Thanks! And Thanks to Ozrob for her eagle eye and quick notice.

lamazon 03/ 9/2007 #

Thanks again. I have contacted "simply living"'s partner.

SharonP 03/ 9/2007 #

Will everyone please take an extra look at their partners' profiles before sending, and if anything looks fishy -- a deleted profile, certainly, or a rash of no-sends (everyone in this swap either had no rating or a rating of 4.5 or higher at the time that partners were assigned) -- please contact me before sending.

Hi Ozrob, Your package will be on its way from Canada to Australia the second the post office opens on Monday morning. Hope it doesn't take forever to get to you!

ozrob 03/10/2007 #

YAY!! thanks so much Daisygirl, its good to know that your actually going to get a swap and not be dissappointed when nothing turns up in the post. I'll let you know when I get it.

user6613 03/10/2007 #

I'll be sending it surface to keep the costs down, so it might take a while, but I just wanted to let you know it's coming... and it's pretty cute! I almost don't want to let it go! Ah, I'll make another one for myself.

ozrob 03/11/2007 #

so your sending it by sea and not air? That might take a while, yes. lol

ozrob 03/11/2007 #

I just googled it. 4-6 weeks by sea (surface), the cost is a lot cheaper though, about half the cost of airmail.

user6613 03/11/2007 #

Hope that's ok...

ozrob 03/11/2007 #

It will mean it will take longer for you to get a rating.

mediatinker 03/11/2007 #

For overseas mailing, SAL is an economical option that's doesn't take tooo long. The package goes by surface to an international airport, then on a plane over the ocean, then surface again from whatever city the plane landed in. Generally take 2 weeks. Ask your post office to price it for you to compare.

user6613 03/11/2007 #

Thanks mediatinker, I'll check it out.

SharonP 03/11/2007 #

The option to rate your partners shows up about 2 weeks after the send deadline, and you do not have to rate your partners right away. If I haven't received something at that point, I usually e-mail my partner (because now you know who is supposed to send something to you) and ask whether it is coming soon. If they sent it a long time ago, they will probably want to know if it hasn't arrived yet.

If you are sending near or after the send deadline, you really should e-mail your partner to let them know when you sent it -- posting a message here is OK, but there are 172 people in this swap (no, wait, now there are 169), so just imagine if everybody posted a message here when they send! Better to e-mail your partner directly instead.

It's also good manners to let your partner know when you have received a package from them. If they didn't include their e-mail address with the package (take that as a hint: include your e-mail address when you send something!), then you can at least post a message here to say you received your package and from whom.

Thanks, everybody. I do hope everyone (remaining in this swap) follows through and everyone gets something!

sharon (ps: the partners who would have sent to the two who dropped out have not sent yet and it looks like I will be asking them to send to the ones who would be receiving from the drop-outs; and the third person to drop out really did send first and just didn't find Swap-bot to her liking; so . . . so far, so good)

TriStateLinx 03/12/2007 #

Hi Jan,

I just received my package from you just a minute ago. Thank you so very much. It cam pretty quickly from Australia. WOW. I LOVE MY SWAP.

em 03/12/2007 #

I uploaded a photo of the bag I sent to my partner but I have NO idea where to find it. I'm interested in seeing what other people made too. I looked at the FAQs but nothing was obvious. Can anyone tell me where to look? Thanks!

user5713 03/12/2007 #

Em ~ Right below the title of this swap and above the photo of the little bag at the top of the page It says "Launch Gallery Slideshow" Just click on that and you'll be able to see your photo. Great stuff by the way!

marnel 03/12/2007 #

ginm...your little bag is on it's way from Olympia, Wa.

Hope you like it :-)

SharonP 03/12/2007 #

Cute bag, Em!

Just a little tip on preparing photos to upload: please reduce the resolution to 72 dpi and the total width to about 700 pixels. Then we'll be able to see them easily on the screen.

To view over large photos, if you have a Mac, you first do control-click, then select "view image." I think on a PC you would use the right click to get that option. Not sure though. Someone with a PC might try it and see if that works.

sharon

SharonP 03/12/2007 #

I'm setting up a Flickr page for photo sharing because I think it will be a better way to create a group gallery. I haven't done a lot with Flickr, but I don't think you have to worry about resizing photos so much, it should just do it for you. And it should be easier to look at new photos without always having to start at the beginning.

In order to make it accessible to our group only, but viewable by the public (so you can tell someone else how to see your photos if you like), I am setting it up as an invitation-only public group. That means you will each get an invitation by e-mail. If you don't feel like joining Flickr (it's owned by Yahoo, so you just use your Yahoo ID if you have one), don't worry about it. I'm sure some people can upload their pictures here and others there, it's not a big deal.

And if you don't get an invitation, let me know!

em 03/12/2007 #

Holy WOW! No kidding, I practically had to stand in the other room to view that photo. Is there any way to delete it so that I can upload a smaller one?

Thanks for letting me know about the size though. I appreciate the help.

SharonP 03/12/2007 #

There doesn't seem to be a way to delete or resize photos once they're uploaded in the Swap-bot gallery. At least, I haven't found a way to do it.

I encourage everybody to join the Flickr group page. Already 36 people have joined and there are 8 photos of fabulous handmade bags. These guys are really setting the bar high!

If you don't have a digital camera or a scanner and won't be uploading photos, and so maybe don't want to join Flickr, I can post the url of the group page so you can still go there to look at the photos. I'll check it and put it in a new message and add it to the group description.

The other reason to use the Flickr site instead of this one is that the Swap-bot gallery doesn't give you a way to just view the newest uploads -- you always have to start with the first one and go through them one at a time. If we get a lot of photos that just gets to be a drag!

SharonP 03/12/2007 #

OK, the Flickr site is in the description as the swap home page. You can click on that to go view the photos, or you can click on it here:

Hi Joanne,

I'm sending your bag in today's mail. You should receive it by the end of this week or early next week. I hope you like it. Let me know when you receive it.

PaisleyBabe 03/13/2007 #

mediatinker (Kristen) - I just wanted to let you know that I received your AWESOME handmade bag full of stuff today! Thank you so, so much! I totally and completely love all of it!

The bag is so great! I love the fabrics that you chose! I also love all of the cool stuff from Japan that you included! It was such a surprise opening my mailbox today and finding something from Tokyo! Wow! Thank you so much again!

Windchimes 03/13/2007 #

King Carmen - your package is on its way! I have no idea how long it will take to go from Nebraska to Scotland, but I believe they said 7-10 days. I hope you enjoy it!

ginm 03/14/2007 #

I went to my mailbox today, and there it was, my little handmade bag!!! I love it, love it, love it, love it!! My swap partner also enclosed one of her fabric post cards, blank note cards, pad of paper with pens. It was a great swap for me and I very much appreciate all the effort.

Winnie 03/14/2007 #

Hkstar was my partner in other swap and she did not send me nothing!! And another one, "Terry" either. It was very disapointed to me because terry still rated over 4, because she was rated 5 in very small and cheapest swaps, so in the big ones flake. So she still join swapping!!! My english is no so good, so I dont know if you understand me, but I hope the requirements to join swaps was over 4.5 or more, so let this people out of the swap. It easy to send 20 cheap ATC, to be rate 5 and so join in to big swap and flake. Well, Im new swapping, I began 2 months ago, and I have 3 not received pàckages... I dont have much luck maybe...

Winnie 03/14/2007 #

Ah! I forgot! Terry have 3 not sent packages...and still rated 4.333, so be carefull if join to another swap. Hkstar, sent me a mail, asking me my preferences, likes, and dislikes and so it deleted her profile, so I feel sad =(( I trust her =((

maltagirl 03/14/2007 #

Hey Anisa

Windchimes 03/17/2007 #

Question re photos on the Flickr group. We wouldn't post the pictures of what we sent would we? Wouldn't that spoil the surprise? I am confused as what pictures we post. Can someone let me know?

SharonP 03/17/2007 #

Hi, Windchimes, Some people are posting pictures of the bags they made and even what's in them, but not saying who they're sending them to. I didn't do that because I had been in touch with my partner regarding an address change. I agree with you that you don't want to spoil the surprise. But not everyone joined the Flickr group (it looks like about half have done so), and not everyone has a digital camera or knows how to upload photos. So it would be great if you took photos and if you wanted you could wait to post them until after your partner got her package, that would be a good alternative to uploading them beforehand.

craftersbag 03/18/2007 #

I got an awesome bag from Chris I can't remember her screen name but I want to say thank you I love it.

pgk 03/25/2007 #

WOW!!!!

All items must be sent by March 26 (2007) and there looks to be 68 people who signed up that haven't sent anything. Since I'm a bit new, is this normal?

Bearynice 03/25/2007 #

To all 68 who still have not sent It is the last day today , you would not like to be disappointed so don't disappoint others, at least contact your partner today and let them know your story, remember you reap what you sew in this life. Bev

birdbeth 03/25/2007 #

the last day is actually the 26th, and in my part of the world that is tomorrow! i am one of those 68 and mine will be sent tomorrow, monday the 26th.

clementina 03/26/2007 #

Mine was sent today - I'm not normally one to leave it to the last minute but illness and other things slowed me down on this one. Just as well it's not leaving the UK - should be with polkadotpebble in a few days!

wigglywourms 03/26/2007 #

I'm one of the 68, too but I should be able to get it in the mail today (the 26th). I've finished the bag and now I just have to fill it up and mail it. It does have to fly overseas though so I hope it doesn't take too long. I will send it airmail :o)

Hi Honeybee, I got your package today. The little bag is really nice I love the choice of fabric. The snowman is too cute and the Japanese craft book is to cool. I just everything! Thanks again…

user6666 03/26/2007 #

Michelle aka Brittercat, Your bag is on the way to you. I didn't put my user id on the package anywhere-so in case you were wondering who it was from...it's me! I hope you like it!

SharonP 03/26/2007 #

Polly, don't be anxious, no matter what they tell you at the post office, overseas mail from the US usually takes a couple of weeks.

I haven't checked the list, but I hope everybody has sent by now. If not, be sure to contact your partners with an obsequious apology (LOL!), and then get that bag to the post ASAP!

whisperwings 03/26/2007 #

My bag was sent to Margarita Jaramillo-Coletto a few days ago so should be well on its way across the Pacific.

midwestknitgirl 03/27/2007 #

Kiki - I'm doing great!

The yarn I used is one from Blue Moon Fiber, I'm in the socks that rocks club and I decided to use one of those since I have so much of it. Gorgeous, huh?

Take care!

pgk 03/27/2007 #

WOW!!! We're down to 29 "not-sents" now. Not too bad considering there were 68 the last time I counted...woohooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

SharonP 03/27/2007 #

Just checked the list myself a few minutes ago. After you remove the two that were known wouldn't send (and so we rearranged around them), and the one who contacted me (and so I have taken care of that one's partner), we're down to 20 who still say "not sent" -- that includes some who have told me that they sent but haven't logged on yet to click. I sent out reminders to all who had "not sent" yesterday, and several had sent but had forgotten to click, several others had been ill or had other issues intrude, but are on the verge of sending. It's looking pretty good, I think!

pgk 03/27/2007 #

I'm excited now...I might receive my nifty swap then. Thank you Sharon!

headnet72 03/27/2007 #

I sent mine today to USA to knitgirl63. Be patient!!! It will cross the ocean!!! I hope you'll like it!!!

fairykiss 03/27/2007 #

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I was having some serious problems logging onto swapbot the last few days. Then if I was able to I couldn't go to any of my swaps.... it may be a reason some haven't clicked the sent button.

Also, thank you mr.bwcat! I love my little bag and the charm and buttons! Pictures are currently on flickr.

Michelle, your bag is on the way. I had to re-think the goodies for fear of the weather getting warmer now.

honeybknits 03/27/2007 #

I sent a day late ( first time ever being late) I go to the post office five minutes too late. :( But to make up for it I sent it airmail to jane pierrepont in UK. So keep an eye out!- mamaknits

snarglebean 03/27/2007 #

Last week I received a way-cool tote bag made from a hardcover book, from Pgk! What a clever and creative piece of art, I will treasure it forever! Thank you so much! Kelli (snarglebean)

hanjiwest 03/28/2007 #

Gram's Button Box...

Hanjiwest here....I have never ever put my online nickname and I have been swapping awhile...silly... now that you pointed it out I will from now on. I am so glad you like the small bag and the goodies..

All the BEST!

user6552 03/28/2007 #

Hi guys! I have been watching the post and unless I am just totally blind and missed it, I haven't seen anything from Marcia1977. I sent her box last week and sent it priority, so she should have gotten it by now. And I also haven't seen anything at my front door yet either, so I'm still waiting with excitment to see what's in the special package...lol.

Deb

Clau 03/28/2007 #

Veterok ~ Just wanted to let you know that your handmade bag arrived today. Great colours! And your ATC is real cool; quite different to what I usually make or get. Thank you very much!

SharonP 03/28/2007 #

If you are concerned about whether your partner has received the package you sent, you can contact them by clicking on their name to get to their profile and then using the Swap-bot contact form. Or you can use the e-mail address provided with their address info.

Of course, it would be better if everyone would contact their partner or post a message here when they receive packages! But sometimes it doesn't occur to people, or they don't get to a computer very often. I know that can make a person anxious. Hang in there!

user6552 03/28/2007 #

Hey, It's me again, I just got home and there was a package for me! Inside was a wonderful surprise. Michelle knitted a very cute little lavender(my favorite color) bag, that you can hang on your belt or belt loop when you don't want to carry your purse. It is so nice. She also sent a book light, which I need, because I read every night and the over head light disturbs my hubby...lol, some very nice stitch markers, some stickon notebook jewels and some really nice lipbalm. Thanks so much Michelle!

Deb

pgk 03/28/2007 #

Kelly~

That was so very nice of you to post your thoughts on the tote I made for you...such kind words. I'm very excited for my next few swaps...wooohooooooooooooooo. Deb, you are so lucky to have received yours. Maybe mine is stuck on a cloud or on the wings of an airplane.

CJQueenSwaper 03/28/2007 #

pgk 03/28/2007 #

Oops! I meant to spell that name like it's suppose to be - Kelli, sorry. I have a niece Kelly.

SharonP 03/28/2007 #

Cathy, no worries! Your anxiety is understandable with your history of not receiving swaps. I can tell you that I have a list of those who have not clicked "sent" along with info on who their partners are, and your partner is not among them. So that means she has clicked "sent." I did not go through the list to see exactly who is sending to you, so I can't tell you how far it has to travel, but at least it's very likely on its way!

The number of "not sent," not counting the three I have already accounted for, is down to 9! So, that's looking like progress, anyway!

KarlaKC 03/28/2007 #

Ok, had a comment all typed up and guess I spent too long 'cause then I had to "log in" all over again and of course my comment wasn't saved. So here it is again...a little re-worded.

Cathy, I can just imagine how nervous you might be thinking that this might be yet another swap where you don't receive. (I was wondering that myself, but I just got the cutest bag, and I was spoiled!) But I know what it's like to wonder and to be disappointed. I'm hoping you get your bag really soon. If we assume your partner didn't mail until the final day (Monday), it's only been 3 days since the swap ended. It might even be there today for you! But if it's traveling internationally, it could take a week or two. I hope your partner will contact you and soothe your fears. :)

Sharon, if we do end up with anyone who doesn't receive a bag, who sent a bag, I'll be happy to make another bag for someone. Keep me on your "Angel" list of volunteers!

And I didn't post here when I sent out Tuesday, but just so my partner doesn't worry, my partner was Dawn! It should be there any day now!

KarlaKC 03/28/2007 #

PS: HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, DAWN! Hope you had a wonderful birthday on Monday! It doesn't have to be your last year in your twenties, btw. You can simply count change now when asked your age....For example, when you turn 30, just say "Oh, I'm 29.01!" You'll never reach 30! Each penny equals another year, so it'll take 100 years to pass before your age changes over to "30.00". :)

KarlaKC 03/28/2007 #

Ok, so I can't be quiet, but I originally came online to let Renee know that her package arrived ("yesterday", now). It arrived on Wednesday (yesterday), and I just absolutely LOVE it! So much so that I posted pictures everywhere! haha! I uploaded to this swap's gallery, flickr (swap-bot and this handmade bag groups), and my blog!

Thank you so much, Renee. I loved everything. :)

And I also have to say that after checking out all the pictures over at flickr and the ones here in the gallery, I am impressed with the craftiness of all us swappers! Beautiful handbags, pouches, and totes! Using all sorts of mediums...yarn, fabric, felt, even paper! Wow!

I just want to say that everyone has done a great job with their bags. I unfortunately forgot to take a picture of my bag so I hope Dawn will do it for me when she receives.

One of my favorite bags over at Flickr, as far as uniqueness, was the little bag made out of a remnent of a little girl's corduroy pants leg! And there was a literal "pocket"book, too - a purse made from a jean pocket! You ladies are too crafty! :)

Great job, everyone! If you haven't posted a picture of your bag, the one you made or the one you received, and you're able to take pictures and upload, please share 'em! I'm sure I'm not the only one who enjoys looking at all these pictures of great bags!

zenzhey 03/29/2007 #

Hi,

Sharon P, If you need someone to make a bag for someone who does not receive one from their initial partner please let me know. I would be glad to help. I still have not heard from my partner. I hope the bag made it safe to her!

pgk 03/29/2007 #

Woohooooooooooooooooooooo! 9??? Ok, now I'm getting excited when I was losing hope. This would only be my first "not received swap" unlike Cathy. I'm a very understanding person so even if it comes late, having a package in the mail is always a fun thing.

msteacher 03/29/2007 #

I can understand being disappointed in giving all the time and not being a receiver. That happens to me frequently-so far, no mail from this swap. It does get discouraging, but I am a patient person. It would be nice, courteous and thoughtful for people who have received their swaps to post here or send an email, but I have learned not to hold my breath.

pgk 03/29/2007 #

Well Cindy, you'll never guess what happened...mail came and yep, you guessed it, I received my swap!!!! It's from Eischen, however, I have no idea who that might be so that I can thank them. They even had a delivery confirmation on it. So, if this name sounds familiar, please let me know and thanks so much for such a cute little tote.

flowerpot 03/29/2007 #

Trisha - I got your little bag and love it! I can't sew so it's nice to receive a bag that was hand sewn. Everything inside was such a delight and the candies are one of my faves (how could you know??)

You didn't leave your alias so I hope you read this comment. Thanks!

charolette33 03/29/2007 #

Julia- Thanks so much for my lovely package! I really enjoyed opening everything and was so excited I had to show it all of to my neighbor. :) I had a lovely time looking at everything. I LOVE the handmade cards especially. Thank you!

I am very excitedly waiting in London for my bag, but I am going away tomorrow for two weeks so I'll have to wait until I get back, don't know if I can stand the excitement:) If you have sent to me but don't hear if it's arrived I'll be back on the 16th so I'll be intouch then. Jox

CJQueenSwaper 03/30/2007 #

Thank you so much Lyn the bag and all the great things you sent me. All the way from Singapore. And thanks to everyone that had read my message. It does feel good when you receive something that is so nice. It makes up for the things that you don't receive. You are very sweet Lyn to send me such a nice bag. Thank you again Cathy Jewell

msteacher 03/30/2007 #

Michele Harper-thank you for the adorable bag. I really like it. I enjoyed the candies, bits of lace, sweet applique butterfies and other goodies. I received it today.

FingersInc 03/30/2007 #

Jamie Thanks for letting me know that you sent mine out! (Not a problem, with late, I understand "stuff" happens). I'll try not to attack my mailman in the next couple days ! Woo Hoo !!

SharonP 03/30/2007 #

Karla KC, you are so sweet to post so many upbeat comments. And I understand about composing a long message only to have to do it over again, that has happened to me, too. Don't you just hate that?

And thanks so much to those who have offered to send angel swaps if needed. Although I strongly recommend that anyone who is willing to do that contact me directly rather than post it on the message board. This swap seems to be turning out to have an exceedingly high rate of really nice, thoughtful participants, but it would be best not to advertise your willingess to help out, just in case (hence the reason I'm not repeating any names here).

Last I checked we were down to 5 not-yet-sents. One of those marked sent, however, has learned that a postal van caught on fire on the day she mailed her package and she doesn't know if her package was in it! So, that's rather harrowing. She has contacted her partner, and informed me. So, we're all crossing our fingers over that one!

Colleen, never attack your mailman. Many of them carry pepper spray in case of dangerous dogs! Blowing them kisses is, however, permitted! LOL

user5628 03/30/2007 #

As Sharon has just mentioned in the post above mine, I have marked this swap as sent, but unfortunately, due to a mail van catching on fire, I am not sure if my items will arrive at their destinations. I have notified the coordinator of this swap and my swap partner/s. The only information I have about this event is that some items were not harmed and have already been sent, some were damaged and where there is a senders address will be returned to the sender – hopefully within the next week, and some items were totally destroyed with no way of knowing who they were to or from. Obviously I am hoping for the ‘best-case scenario’ but I am busy making replacement items to prepare for a ‘worst-case scenario’.

On the bright side, this has given me an excellent reason to go and buy more crafting items to restock my already over flowing craft room.

lalouja 03/31/2007 #

This is a message for zannestar. I received your package today. I really love the little bag. The fabrics you chose are gorgeous. That blue/green combo is beautiful. And thank you for the pretty trimmings you put in it. I'll really enjoy using it all.
Bernadette

user5592 03/31/2007 #

Sue N, I got your package a week ago, but I have been out of town and forgot {blushes} to properly say thank you! You sent an excellent assortment of items for me to play with and a very cute bag! Thank you!

SharonP 03/31/2007 #

Blondeattitude, I love your attitude! Speaking as a fellow blonde (going gray, but still mostly blonde), I say you represent us all quite admi
