About Me

7/12/19 update: My husband had a stroke at the end of June...he's been released after a few days in the hospital, and then in intense rehab. He's doing quite well in most things, but will continue with physical, occupational and speech therapy at least into August...We were so fortunate that the stroke was small and fairly mild.

5/10/19 update: It's been a long long time... My mother's illness worsened a few years ago, her care requirements became more intense, and I had less time for swapping and other artistic pursuits...She passed away earlier this year, and after caring for her for 8+ years, I find I have a lot more time, suddenly...and I've started doing more art, and would like to get back into swapping.

7/21/16 Update:

My husband was diagnosed in early spring with a serious illness. After some painful trial and error, David is now on a medication regimen that seems to be working for now. He will need to continue this or a similar mediation for the rest of his life. We are hopeful that in late September his doctor will tell us he is "in treatment-induced remission". David has been off work since mid February, and will likely not be able to resume the high-stress, frequent travel work that he had been doing, but at present he is enjoying the summer and rebuilding strength and endurance.

My gratitude to all who have sent good thoughts and prayers for us.

I work 4 days a week doing occupational therapy with adults who are mentally ill--and love my work. I get to spend 2 - 3 hours every workday teaching folks to make art...

I'm married, 38 years. We have no kids, but love Setters--at present we have a 7-year old Gordon Setter named Brenna who is sweet and delightful, and a 3 year old Gordon named Ruby who still has too much energy!

I love all colors, with a preference for cool colors. I collect sheep, whistles shaped like fish (yes, it's an odd thing to collect--my collection is rather small), wool, glass beads and penguins.

I enjoy reading and always have a book or two underway. I also enjoy audiobooks for my commute time

For exercise I walk or ride my bike.

Favorite Music

Folk/eclectic--from Joni Mitchell's early stuff to Lucy Kaplansky to Martyn Joseph to Eliza Gilkyson.

I also like Brazilian bossa nova/samba music and some of the older mellow jazz for background music.

Favorite Crafts

paper crafts -- needlepoint & embroidery -- art clay silver -- beading -- acrylic paint pouring

I make and sell books and greeting cards, and sell/gift some of my silver and beaded jewelry.

I do collage, mostly as art-as-therapy for myself, but will also do it on a smaller scale for swaps.

Allergies/Food Sensitivites

After a scary allergy response to 'something I ate' in June 2016, I had food sensitivity testing done, and score as very reactive to avocados, eggs, bananas, pineapple, almonds & sunflower seeds/oils. Please don't send me any of those items, and if you do send a food item, please check the ingredients, as I have found eggs and sunflower oil/sunflower lecithin to lurk in the most unexpected places!

I also do not use any artificial sweeteners, as the chemical ones upset my tummy, and Stevia is a relative of the sunflower...

Comment: Great tag! She kind of reminds me of my mother when she was young(with out the crown of course!)-Like all the bling with the pencil markings! Thanks also for the great Halloween tags-I will certainly use those. I've already used the wax seal and sticker that was part of your packaging in my junk journal. Thanks for sharing!
Response: Thank you, Georgene, I'm so glad you liked the tag! I haven't done anything like that before, so am glad it came out as something you like...I appreciate you good rating and the heart--Thanks!

Comment: Frogs! I LOVE frogs! My favorites are the tiny spring peepers ;+) This is such a fun design with the frog paper and images--I'm crazy for the one on the 'back' of the wallet with the celebrating frogs jumping around; is that a rubber stamp? Loved the enclosures as well, especially the embossed papers with the birds on them. What a wonderful swap--thank you!
Response: Kristy, thank you for your great rating and heart....the pocket wallet was fun to make! The dancing frog image is an old Magenta stamp, my mom used to use it on Valentines...Thank you for hosting this swap!

JediLibrarian rated for N&T: Kandinsky Circles on Jul 15, 2019
Comment: Kathy- This is absolutely beautiful!! I love that you added beading to the circles. The colors are pleasing and it's just so pretty. Thank you! You are very talented!
Response: Thank you, Valerie! I had a lot of fun stitching this, and just played with different ideas...I feel less "comfortable" with free style stitching, so am grateful that you like it...thank you for the 5 and heart!
Comment: Kathy, I love the card you made for me! Once again, I liked how yours turned out much better than mine though I used the glaze she had in the tutorial rather than the floor wax. I found the technique a bit messy as well, but would definitely try again. I also tried one sample using Mod Podge, but the glaze worked better. Thanks for the happy mail! πŸ˜ƒ
Response: Hey, Michele, thanks...this was a tricky new technique, and I didn't love it, but it's worth trying...thank you for your kind words and good rating...

Comment: OMG! Tooooo cute! Such beautiful work. I wish I could turn them into earrings, but they are too long - gives me an idea for the small paper clips (lol)...always thinking.... Anyway, I love the pretty paper clips you made for me. Thank you so much! ❀️
Response: Jan, what a great idea to make these into earrings with the smaller paperclips...easy to do, and you can make them to go with absolutely any outfit, given all the colors of scrapbook paper...glad you liked the ones I sent, and thank you so much for the heart and the great rating!

Comment: Thank you SO MUCH for the beautifully embossed greeting card, Kathy! It's so rich and elegant; I'll be sending it to someone really special if I can let go of it. I appreciate the extra embellishment coins as well, something I don't have, which is hard to do because I have so much stuff...hahaa! I wish I could give you two hearts.
Response: Dorothy, I'm very happy you liked the card...it was fun to make, and fun to try an old technique again... Glad you like the little coins, too! Thank you for the great rating and heart!

Comment: Thank you for hosting such a fun swap - I love learning new techniques! The card you made for me was so cute! Her fairy wings did great through the mail! Your background turned out a lot better than mine did. I used a baggie and my backgrounds have more of a marbled look and yours are more sphere-like. Did you use a baggie for the technique or something else? Anyway, thank you for my happy mail! πŸ˜ƒ
Response: Michele, thank you for your comments, and for the great rating! I'm enjoying the group swaps a lot!
